Not one to leave bad reviews but the service we had last night was absolutely terrible. Our server had a bad attribute and her service in general was garbage. We had a group of 16 people and she kept disappearing for long stretches of time (sometimes 30 mins), so many of us were left without drinks and had to wait long to order food. And it wasn't even busy, we were the only table inside and there were 3 other servers out on the patio. We we tried to catch her attention numerous times and she would avoid eye contact and walk everywhere else but our direction. There were times were we had to go to the bar for drinks separately or physically walk over to ask her things. When ordering drinks, a friend asked for water and the server's reply was snarky and responded with "you already asked for that" but most of us did not have glasses and the ones that did, did not have any water left in the bottle. At the end of the night she came over and wished my husband a happy birthday then proceeded to pick up his drink and drink from it. Then walks away with the drink for herself which she continued to drink at the bar while doing her cash out and brought him a newly poured drink. Found that super unprofessional and just plain weird.
Anyway the food and beer are good. So they deserve some credit for that. No complaints there and it seemed like the other servers (from what we could see) and even the support staff that helped clear our table from dirty plates and glasses were friendly and attentive. We just had bad luck with the server we were given and she really ruined the experience for everyone. It was a lot of people's first time there and they don't plan on going back again. At least we know who to avoid when we're there next time (the server with...
Read moreWe held a small gathering here for my Mom's Retirement party, and from start to finish I have been incredibly impressed with the whole team at Bitter Sisters. The night went off perfectly and I cannot recommend this spot enough. To start, they were incredibly responsive - I had reached out to several venues, as you do when looking for an event space, and it was the prompt & attentive replies from Jill that initially sold us on selecting Bitter Sisters. Not because they responded first per say, but because they responded as if they WANTED to host. Throughout the process, Jill was accommodating, patient with my many questions & made great recommendations to help us select from the event menu. The night of the event was PERFECT. We were able to come in early and decorate, the little space they had setup for us was beyond my expectation and the staff were fantastic. Truly, every single staff member we interacted with was lovely, and the dedicated server we had (I deeply regret that I cannot recall her name, in the chaos of starting the night I had the attention span of a 3 year old) was FANTASTIC. Even if everything else had been just 'meh', she alone would have us coming back again. The food was excellent, incredibly fresh and held up well on the appie table throughout the evening - we will be back for more chicken wings for sure - they went very quickly. The prosecco toast we were able to do, while a small thing, really was appreciated. Could not have been more pleased with the evening, several of our guests commented that they would be returning for more food and of course, the beer. Thank you to the team at Bitter Sisters for making an important night for our...
Read moreBitter Sisters is a family friendly, approachable pub with friendly staff, good food, and locally made beer.
Ive been twice now and hope you don’t get too bitter about my review. This is my local and I’m glad that it has reopened.
5/5 for family. The place looks fun for kids, room to move and be kids with parents responsibly making sure the kids are behaved. Upstairs looks particularly great for families with a mix of traditional seating, couches, and an oddly homely living room space overlooking the main level.
3/5 for the first beers. There was absolutely nothing wrong with any of them, but there was nothing notable about them. Seeing the clientele, I think it’s actually a hit more than a miss in regards to broad appeal (eg. the slew of families that flocked in on a Saturday eve), but for a place that has brewery in the title, I hope for more.
4/5 for guest taps. A nice selection which makes up for the okay staples. Well curated, please keep this up and bring in some weird stuff once in a while.
2/5 for decor. The reno was a great functional improvement. Good job on moving the stairs, and making unisex arsenals on both floors. The decor says “I still don’t know who I am” but the foundation is solid. The wall behind the bar is a nice colour but plain, and I hope in the future you turn it into a prominent display of who you are within our community! The Trap had an unapologetic charm which made it a destination, whereas Bitter Sisters is a nice looking shell, still waiting for substance and personality.
3/5 for food. It’s good, I haven’t had anything notable but...
