Egg-cellent Breakfast Spot!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Egg and Spoon on McLeod Trail, and let me tell you, it was a truly egg-cellent experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and a friendly atmosphere. The service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious.

I started with a cup of their freshly brewed coffee, which was rich and flavorful. Then, I couldn't resist ordering their signature dish, the Eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise sauce was creamy and rich, and the Canadian smoked pork belly bacon was crispy and savory. It was a symphony of flavors that left me wanting more. I was also intrigued by the crispy homemade potato chips that accompanied the breakfast.. they were crisp and delicious.

The atmosphere at the Egg and Spoon is bright and inviting, and it's the perfect place to enjoy a breakfast or brunch with friends and family. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal.

Here are some of the things that make the Egg and Spoon stand out:

Delicious food: The menu features a wide variety of breakfast and brunch options, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Friendly service: The staff is always friendly, attentive, and eager to please. Great atmosphere: The restaurant is relaxed and inviting, with a casual vibe. Perfect for groups: The Egg and Spoon is a great place to gather with friends and family for a meal.

If you're looking for a great breakfast or brunch spot in Calgary, I highly recommend the Egg and Spoon on McLeod Trail. You won't be disappointed! Be sure to scan the QR code for parking. It's free but you'll definitely want to register your vehicle to avoid...

Breakfast was just OK. We had the Eggs Benny and the Breakfast Bowl. We were really optimistic based on the exceptional reviews, but we'll chalk it up to new business growing pains, and try them again in a few months.

The good: interior is very nice, very friendly greeting, seated quickly, and service overall very prompt and friendly. Eggs were poached very well, runny yolk without undercooked whites. The bacon (different than the house-smoked pork belly) was tasty. The sauteed kale was surprisingly good. Sourdough toast was great and the homemade jam was really interesting (in a good way).

Areas for improvement: Breakfast Bowl in general was a bit underwhelming, the potatoes were cooked through but no real color/crisp on them and minimal seasoning. Eggs Benny is advertised on a biscuit, they brought it on an untoasted english muffin which was inedibly soggy before the first bite, asked about the biscuit and they don't have biscuits, probably won't ever have biscuits, our server acknowledged they should change the menu description. The house smoked pork belly was lacking flavor and seasoning compared to the bacon. The no-warning substitution for an English muffin, and to not even toast it, was definitely the low point for us.

We ordered Americanos for takeout at the end of breakfast, extended delay as they realized they were short on lids for the takeaway cups, disappointed to see they were charging $7 (no joke) for one Americano, and the flavor was OK but definitely on the weaker side. The delay resulted in them refunding us for the coffee which was...

For your 2025 checklist, having breakfast at Egg and Spoon should be at the top. This quiet and lovely location is a hidden gem for Calgary's ever-growing foodie scene regarding culinary flare and has some of the friendliest staff I have seen in 5 years. I never came into Egg and Spoon looking to review it but after what I experienced they earned it!

Both their eggs benedict and chicken and waffles taste fabulous. The in-house hollandaise sauce has a rich flavor that is missed in most eggs benedict combined with a pork belly and seasoning that leaves you wanting more. The house fries are also a treat with great seasoning, cactus fries, and bread and butter pickles that are very tasty. The chicken and lemon-infused waffles with espresso maple is a combination I didn't know I needed!

I also want to shout out our server Rosie who was a magnificent host and enhanced our dining experience. She was able to give us some recommendations for the ongoing hot chocolate fest in February which was very pleasant. Rosie was also able to help other tables find their orders with some excellent details on what was available that day, what was trending, and what she had tried. All while making sure my coffee cup was never empty.

Egg and Spoon is located on Macleod Trail, north of the train overpass near Heritage Road. If you do come in and see Rosie please let her know you read...

TLDR: Wonderful, would recommend to all! To preface my partner and I went on a Thursday mid morning for brunch, I have celiac disease and this was our first experience at Egg and Spoon. Our server, Brianna (my apologies if I spelt that wrong) was extremely attentive and did not miss a single mark; giving excellent tips on ordering. You could tell she enjoys the food as well - always a good sign! We had a lovely booth table, the atmosphere was peaceful, the music wasn’t too loud/quiet, the kitchen (which is open concept) was well organized! My only feedback in this whole review is that the a/c was a little too breezy - probably because of how our table lined up with the vents surrounding and not a dealbreaker by any means. We ordered the breakfast bowl with rye toast, the build your own breakfast with over-medium eggs, gluten free multigrain toast and homemade cured bacon and lemon ricotta pancakes. We have no notes on the food, everything was so delicious, we were comfortable with the portion sizes. Note, we shared the pancakes but were a bit too full to finish them and took the leftovers to go. Celiac/gluten allergy folks - the owner has celiac disease and it shows! There has clearly been extra time and heart put into the gluten free options available. Glad to see this spot join Calgary’s booming breakfast scene and will be going back!

I've historically never really been a fan of going out for breakfast or brunch because I always felt like it was nothing special and we could make the same things at home. Often it felt like I was going out to over pay for someone to slice my fruit and fry up a couple eggs. A co-worker suggest I try this place and I am incredibly grateful for the recommendation. I can say with confidence that Egg & Spoon is serving the best breakfast/brunch that I have had in recent memory. My wife and I have visited twice now with our 4-month old. Both times we went without a reservation (something I doubt will be possible in the coming months as word gets out) and we were seated immediately in a perfect spot with room for the baby. Service was quick and attentive. Both the drip coffee and espresso drinks are on-point. Espresso drinks come with a little cookie and this theme of "a little something extra" carries forward into the rest of the meal. I tried the salmon and brie bread pudding and my wife had the breakfast sandwich. I think the bread pudding is one of the best breakfast creations I've ever had. All the flavours are so well balanced and so much care is put on the plate. You can truly see and taste all the work that went into these dishes. On top of all of this, the prices are very reasonable. Don't hesitate to check this place out.

Was excited for this place to open up, and glad to see it finally did The menu has a decent amount of options, with gluten free and vegetarian choices. Prices are somewhat steep for portion sizes, but it's definitely the type of place where you pay for the ambience. Staff was incredibly friendly, and super accommodating; I'll blame it still being new and busy, as they did forget our order, which resulted in us waiting just under an hour for our food, so we had to get it packed up to go. However, our server gave us a discount and some free drinks for the mistake, which wasn't expected, but was greatly appreciated. The food itself has a very nice flavour. The potato wedges were lightly seasoned, but it's breakfast, so that's reasonable -- I think some type of citrus would've rounded out the flavour really well. The omelette was lovely; their menu states the mushrooms are hand picked, and I really enjoyed the texture they added to the eggs, but the hollandaise sauce was definitely the kicker. They were very generous with the amount of sauce they put, and it had a very intense taste, which I really liked. Because of the pricing, I don't know if I'd become a regular here, but can definitely see myself going on occasion, and I look forward to trying their other options.
