Edit: 5/14/22
Revising my rating from 3 to a 5. Commentary on my original review (which I will preserve below this update for context) wasn't a factor in this decision. Here's what was:
After taking a several month hiatus trying other pizza places, a loyalty coupon eventually enticed me back to give Bow Tie another try. My thinking was that if I ended up getting another dud, at least my investment was small. To my delight, the pizza provided that evening was exactly as I'd remembered them being when they were a single location. Hefty, a great combination of crispy/chewy/fluffy, flavorful, and extremely filling.
To make sure it wasn't a fluke (because my main gripe has been consistency of product) I wanted to order the same pizza 2 more times without providing so much as a peep of feedback one way or the other. The next two pizzas were a match in quality to the first one. The owner was present at least one of the evenings to ensure quality control. That signals to me that there are some kudos that need to be offered.
Keep up the good work. I'll be back.
Bow Tie Pizza (at least this location) is a shadow of its former self prior to their expanding to other areas in the city. When this was their only location, the product you received was unmatched by any pizza place in the city in terms of generosity of toppings and consistency of product.
The offerings here are still tasty but the reviews you see are now mostly riding on the coat tails of the premium reputation they earned in the early days that many have no basis of comparison for. Bow Tie Pizza then? 5/5 without a hint of hesitation. Now? 3/5. That 3 is due to their unrivaled dedication to customer service and striving to reach the high water mark they first established. My main concern is you pretty much get half the pizza you once did in spite of ever increasing prices. Seems much more like pies are built towards certain thresholds and metrics than striving for greatness.
I want to compare the feeling to the significant other that has gotten comfortable and let themselves go and wonder why the spark isn't there any more. That's somewhat unfair because they definitely do try, they just don't have the treadmill going fast enough. I've personally given up waiting for them to get there. To the owners, the order history under my account isn't the full picture as I've paid for orders that others have...
ย ย ย Read moreFurther update, one of the owners did reach out to us - it needs to be noted that there was no charge for our original order and Bow Tie also graciously threw in credits for 2 more pizzas. Never the less, we are undecided as to whether or not we will order from them again - time will tell.
So an update some 3 years layer from our original review and I must say we are now quite disappointed with this particular Bow Tie location. This last order was made well before their supper rush and it took 2 hours to get to us even though we live just 1.2km away. Driver claimed he was given the wrong address even though they've had our information on file for 3+ years. This location then told us that they had to create a new file for us. Then the shop called us to tell us the driver couldn't contact us even though they just got our information for a new file. Then the driver contacted me even though the number they had on our new file was my wife's number. Pizza was pretty much just a cold soggy mess by the time they got to us, nothing like it used to be. So disappointed now compared to what they used to be.
Original review... We've lived not far away for over 21 years and our pizza place of choice has changed over those years. Knew Bowtie was there and decided to try them after reading so many positive reviews and now we'll to the list of glowing reviews.
Great crust, amazingly tasty toppings and most surprising of all - the box and liner were't soaked in grease/oil like so many other places.
Best of all, Bowtie's pricing is better than the places we have been ordering from.
Consider us to be a repeat customer for years to come. Thanks for the...
ย ย ย Read moreOrdered twice now. While the taste of both my orders was excellent, the crust did not meet my expectations. First time I ordered regular, and it was pretty limp so, for the second I ordered well done (worried that might mean close to burnt) only to find the pizza still completely flopping over when picked up. I'm looking for a crispy crust that holds its shape. I'm able to attain this at home with frozen pizzas with LOTS of my own added toppings. Unsure what I should be specifying in my order. I'd like to continue being a customer, as the pizza is wonderfully flavorful, but the crust has been disappointing. In the included picture, I immediately had to set the pizza down as toppings were falling off when it flopped in my hand. It was the well done selection
UPDATE: After speaking with the owner and head chef, Yanie and following his specific ordering advice, I have just received my pizza. 2 slices in and I can say it is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I got the All Dressed with spicy sauce. Having it not cut crisps the crust up well. Just have a big knife or a pizza cutter handy and...
