Cactus Club Cafe — Restaurant in Calgary

Terrible experience, as someone who has been coming here for 10 years I am shocked.

Had a reservation for 10:15, Sat April 20 got in early and got a seat at 10pm. Ordered appetizers around 10:10. We made our order and informed the server of my fiancé’s diary allergy, she informed us that the food we ordered may contain dairy, that was fine.

She gives us our cutlery which was dirty, got that exchanged for fresh clean plates, still no problem I’m cool with that, mistakes happen.

But, absolutely atrocious wait, we witnessed everyone around us getting their food except us; eventually the appetizers came out in 30 mins. We decided the wait for the main meal was getting too long as it had been an hour and decided to pay for our food and leave.

The waitress heard this and scrambled, went to the back to get the “manager” or whatever she was. She told us our food was ready and is waiting. I asked if it was waiting the entire time why didn’t it come out? She told me it was because of the allergy situation? Made no sense to me at all.

I told the manager we just wanted to pay for what we ate and go, she for some reason took this super personally and couldn’t accept this as an answer. I’m not sure what she intended I was trying to do, but we honestly just wanted to go home.

She stated our food is ready 3 times, I said I wanted to leave and just pay for what I ate, she didn’t accept that as an answer. she claimed we ordered the food at 10:27, we actually ordered around 10:12, it was around 10:52ish waiting for the main course. My fiance didn’t want me to escalate the situation; we were coerced into paying for food we didn’t want after waiting 45 minutes for it, the manager packed the food and gave an extremely unwelcome bye. We drove home with it, We live 30 mins away and the food got cold.

Definitely ruined my experience at one of my previous favourite...

For starters, we’re here every week and generally is amazing!! First off. The waitress apologized and tells us she doesn’t have a brain tonight. Great first convo with customers. Tonight I took my wife for dinner and her steak was burnt, she Prefers well done (I know) lol, but this was burnt really bad on both sides. Asked for extra peppercorn sauce on the side and was given gravy of some kind. Asked the waitress and she said it was the same, with no peppercorns. “It wasn’t even the same colour. Clearly didn’t want to admit to a mistake. Manager shows up and respectfully got her another meal and was perfect as always. (Her meal was free) My virgin caesar wasn’t mixed. I asked for an straw and never received one. Didn’t drink it and asked for a glass of water. My steak didn’t rest, so it was swimming in soup mixed with the sauce, made the potatoes kinda gross. Flavour of the steak and mushrooms was good thou. The salt that you put on the asparagus is new and disgusting. Shouldn’t have changed it. My shrimp on the side was perfect. Tail came off nice and flavour was on point. I ate everything cause I worked all day and finally got a meal at 930pm. Didn’t mind paying, I did eat it. The service was terrible thou. We waited 20 min for a seat. “Walk-in” so I get it. Then waited 10 min for a waitress and only visited the table a couple times. Waited 15 minutes just to pay the bill. I walked up to the hostess and she instructed me to go back to my seat and she will find our server. Overall. I make it a habit to visit you once a week. My partner and I are from Australia and we have been wanting some good quality food since we’ve arrived but haven’t found anything too satisfy that taste yet… we had glanced at the menu online before deciding to make the reservation, we had our hearts set on the Parmesan chicken and eye fillet steak, not expecting anything special. When we arrived we were greeted with excellent service, and quickly attended too for drinks and food. Our cocktails were absolutely Devine!! (highly recommend the jalapeño margarita), our entree was the new summer cervachie definitely spelt that wrong which was so delicious ! 10/10 It was fresh, flavoursome and light before our main course. We of course had to order what we went there for (The chicken and steak), and Oh. My. God. Both of these dishes were AMAZING! I personally wanted to shake the hands of all the chefs who created the most DELICIOUS food for us! We were completely satisfied and the portions were perfect! Truly could not fault a single thing. We didn’t have to wait long for anything we ordered, and of course we had to finish it off with dessert, the lava cake, just like everything else… it was amazing! We will 100% be coming back when we get the chance and I would recommend this place to anyone who asks! Thank you so much for the hospitality and delicious meals! Lots of love!...
