Forest Lawn Bakery — Restaurant in Calgary

I recently ordered a 12x15 fruit cocktail cake from Forest Lawn Bakery for Lunar New Year, as I have in the past. While the cake was nicely presented and had a good height, I was very disappointed with the overall experience. Upon cutting into it, we were surprised to find only a single layer of fruit and whipped cream in the middle, sandwiched between two thick layers of sponge cake. The proportions were completely off, making the cake taste more like plain vanilla sponge rather than the fruit-filled dessert we were expecting.

Additionally, there was a noticeable lack of whipped cream and fruit, which used to be more generous in previous orders. The whipped cream also tasted different this time, leading me to believe the recipe may have changed. Unfortunately, this cake was a huge letdown and did not meet our expectations. We will not be ordering from here again, and I cannot recommend this...

We’ve been getting the fruit cocktail cake from Forest Lawn Bakery since moving here in 2023, and let me just say—it’s become a non-negotiable for every celebration. Danny and his team are absolute masters of their craft. The cake is always unbelievably light, fluffy, and perfectly moist, with just the right amount of sweetness.

The whipped cream icing is the REAL game-changer for us—especially with small kids! It’s light, not overly sugary, and makes it so easy for everyone to enjoy (and go back for seconds… and thirds). It’s always the crowd favourite, and without fail, people are asking “Where is this cake from?!” by the time the first slice is served. Spoiler: there are never any leftovers.
