My story starts like this I'm an American born and raised. Visiting Canada for work and nothing more. I get off my flight after finally landing and enjoy the hellish torment of dealing with COVID restrictions and regulations as if the delays weren't enough! I have trouble finding my hotel and when I get there all I'm getting is just the most blatant disrespect you can imagine, further souring my already poor mood. When I finally reach my room and settle in I am ready for my day to be over and head to bed for a long night's slumber. When I awake I'm hit with the strongest of hunger pangs my stomach rumbling as if I haven't consumed food for the last week! I need something and I need it quick I'm using the phone book and keep coming up short. Finally, like a beam of white light, a lady named Ivory answers the phone at a place called Golden Leaf. You could not find a comparable employee such as Ivory at any other establishment the like. The way she handled my order with the most care, concern, and compassion immediately quelled any misgivings this trip had bestowed upon me like a blessing from above. With my apatite put to rest, I was ready to enjoy my trip and push through.
Food 7/10 Ivory's customer...
Read moreUsed to be good now overpriced, tastes old and nasty... I was charged a buck or two more than it was online but that would have been ok if it was good, I got ginger beef, pretty much a standard everywhere and it was bad, it wad like I took some supermarket stuff, re-dipped it in stale batter and briefly fried it... it was doughy and had a pasty thick coating the sauce was thin and had next to no ginger, garlic or chilli spice, I also got there more than 20mins after the order was placed so within their listed time and still had to wait.. it would have been ok if the product was good but this is bad. I've not been there in a few years so I hear they have new management... the oil they fried it in tasted old or the meat was older and it had that freezer taste to... as it was almost $17 i had to try and salvage it... I refried it in a pan with some garlic, ginger and a bit of sweet chili sauce and a touch of Sriracha and a bit of soy sauce and it tasted much closer to the standard you expect at most places... from a simple dish like this to be that bad im not going to be back, i can buy superstore frozen ginger beef and have a...
Read moreWe attempted to order from our usual Chinese restaurant in Shawnessy on New Year's Eve, but they were overwhelmed and unable to accept new delivery requests. As a result, I used SkipTheDishes to find an alternative Chinese restaurant, which led me to New Leaf. We ordered six dishes. The Sweet & Sour Pork, Pork Chow Mein, and Beef & Snow Peas were all of decent quality. However, the Lemon Soo Gai was a significant disappointment. As noted in a previous review, we received chicken strips with lemon sauce instead of the expected dish. I've enjoyed Lemon Soo Gai at numerous Calgary Chinese restaurants, and the preparation is typically consistent: deep-fried batter over a plump chicken breast. This deviation from the standard was quite surprising. It seems the restaurant may be attempting to cut costs with this dish. If this change reflects the overall direction of their menu and the quality they expect their customers will be happy with, I believe they may need to reconsider. I will not be ordering from...
