first time Malaysian food for us and wow was it ever good!! Don't let the location and outside look of the building fool you. The owner/waiter that came to serve us was so nice and he greeted us with a pot of tea. We told him it was our first time and he was kind enough to offer up some suggestions and he even gave us a brief history into Malaysian food as well as his own personal background. He was a true professional and showed his passion of the food. We ordered the Laksa noodle soup and the house noodle soup. Each can be ordered with spice from 0-5 and we selected level 2 for each. The Laksa soup as explained had a curry spice to it and had me worried if I would like it. Let me tell you I have a new respect for Curry, I could not smell it but the taste was out of this world good. It had a good amount of heat but it had such depth to it. The house noodle soup could have had a bit more spice or seasoning but the Waiter fixed that up right away offering me a homemade chili paste to pair with it. When we come again we will order the Laksa at level 1 for my wife and level 2 spice for me. If we try the house noodle again it will be level 3 or 4. We also both liked the noodles better in the Laksa soup. We had the assorted meats in the soup so that we could determine our favorite. I found the texture of the meats (ground and formed) to be a bit odd but the flavor was good. the presentation of both dishes was excellent and came out in a very short amount of time. The amount of food was plenty enough for both of us and we are...
Read moreReally delicious laksa! Nice thick flavourful broth, and your choice of proteins and noodles (thin or thick). I would have liked my soup to be a little bit hotter (temperature wise) but that's my only critique (and a personal preference also)!
Beef Rendang was very tender and went well with the laksa. Roti canai was also really good, delicious dipping sauce and it came out piping hot!! My sister got the Tom Yum, which was very good as well. These guys know how to make great broth!!
You can select your spice level - 2 was good for me (I like a bit of spice, but don't eat it often), the owner said 3 is Malaysia spicy, and my Vietnamese relative (who is a hot sauce fanatic) ordered 4 and said next time he'll do 5.
Owner was quite nice and very attentive.
Great discounts for large groups (order 6 drinks, and one is free/10% off a bill of $100/15% off a bill of $150) which the owner is happy to remind you of if you are close to getting. I called to make a reso for a group of 8 on the day of and they were happy to accommodate. The lunch special looks like a great deal as well.
I hope they stop using disposable cups and straws for their drinks though, pretty wasteful as they all just get thrown out at the end of the meal. So much unnecessary plastic garbage. Next time I will also bring a container to take my food home - the portions are generous, but unfortunately the take out containers...
Read moreMy friend recommended we try this for our double date night since she had heard good things about it. And I was really curious to see what Malaysian cuisine is like
Price: $$ (we split it into 4 and paid ~$20 per person)
• Curry Chicken with Jasmine Rice: ★★★★★ I loved that this came with some salty crunchy samosa chips because I love to have different textures in my meal and this was amazing. The curry was really rich and creamy. I just hoped there was more of it. • Nasi Beef and Chicken Combo: ★★★★★ My friends boyfriend this and seemed to have really liked it. • Nasi with Rendang Beef: ★★★★★ They thought the one component in this dish was very spicy and they weren’t expecting it to be so they took a huge bite which ruined the dish a bit. • Black Garlic Yok Sui Kon Lou Mee: ★★★☆☆ Erech said i couldn’t used more flavour and the fishy smell was a lot. • Laksa Soup: ★★★☆☆ this was pretty much just watered down curry • Roti with Curry Sauce: ★★★★★ I really like the roti it was very soft and flaky kind of like a paratha in a sense. • Wontons: ★★★☆☆ They were okay but very oily according to Erech. • Chilli Cheese Fries: ★★☆☆☆ There was absolutely no cheese in it whatsoever all I tasted was spice. • Popcorn Chicken: ★★☆☆☆ Okay but very bland. • Deep Fried Fish Cakes: ★★☆☆☆ Pretty soggy the texture was kind of like tofu.
