mo·mo /mōmō Noun (in Tibetan cooking) a steamed dumpling filled with meat or vegetables.
If you don’t know now you know.
If you happen to drive in this area and notice this somewhat hidden and inconspicuous restaurant front, your first thought might be, “Burgers and momos? What the heck are momos and what do they have to do with burgers?” Well, besides sharing a fleeting similarity in it’s ingredient of ground meat, almost nothing. So why are they both offered and presented as the name of the restaurant? Probably in an effort to substantiate the lesser known Tibetan cuisine with something ostentatiously Western.
Now, aside from the peculiar name, the mo-mos here are serious business. Served with a side of what I only know as momo sauce, these succulent little steam cooked suckers come in 3 varieties of filling including chicken, pork and vegetarian. Slightly doughier than Japanese gyoza’s (but not overly so), they each contain a good amount of filling. I personally liked the vegetarian ones the best but my lunch buddies preferred the pork which had a delicious soupy filling and others the chicken (try them all!). Now, I wouldn’t say they’re the best momo’s I’ve had, but they certainly rank up there. If I had to go back for one thing here though, it’s their Everest noodles (they’re SO good!). It’s not advertised on the menu, but you can ask for them and they’ll know what you’re talking about. It’s a little oily, but pack a serious punch of flavor and jammed full of chicken and veggies. Between the five of us, we had 4 plates of momos and 2 plates of noodles which was WAY more than enough. We could barely stand after this meal and struggled to finish the last 10 momos. Price wise, each plate ranged between $8.99 - $9.99 and included one canned drink which I thought was more than fair.
5 stars for good food, good pricing and a passionate business owner who made sure we enjoyed everything. It's not fancy, but for a quick lunch or dinner, it works. I would...
Read moreA pleasant surprise on a Sunday 😃💎
This is one of the restaurants in the nearby area that is open on a Sunday. My group of friends came here since we were going to group activities in the area (e.g. escape rooms, mini golf, etc.) and needed to find a place for lunch. We were happy we came here.
We ordered the pan fried vegan momos, a chicken chow mein, a veggie burger with fries, a double beef burger, and a chicken finger kids meal. Everything was good. The momo and chow mein are definitely the signature dishes. This was the first time we had momo and we liked them. We were glad that we ordered a mild chow mein because both the momo and chow mein had a kick of spiciness to them. The sauce for the momo added another level of spiciness...definitely order mild if you can't take too much heat. Kids loved their food and very long fries.
The restaurant is spacious with high chairs for kids. There are condiments and takeout boxes on a side table in case you need to have more ketchup, etc. or can't finish the food. Portions are big and you definitely get good value for money.
Highly recommend everyone to check out this place. Staff are very nice and give us good recommendations. Very grateful that they work hard on a Sunday so we found...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of trying some absolutely fantastic momos, and I couldn’t be more delighted with the experience. I sampled both the regular chicken momos and the jhol momos, and I must say, each bite was bursting with an incredible array of flavours. The juicy chicken filling was perfectly seasoned, and the outer dough was soft yet had the right amount of firmness, making them a delight to eat.
What really stood out were the accompanying dipping sauces. They complemented the momos beautifully, adding an extra layer of tanginess and spice that enhanced the overall taste. The jhol momos, soaked in a rich, flavourful broth, were particularly noteworthy, offering a unique twist that I hadn’t experienced before.
The service at the restaurant was equally impressive. The staff were quick, attentive, and incredibly friendly, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Their warm hospitality truly added a personal touch to the meal.
If you ever find yourself in Calgary and have a craving for some delicious momos, I highly recommend checking this place out. The combination of flavourful food, great sauces, and excellent service will undoubtedly leave you satisfied and...
