I did their gelato academy for a date night and found it to be poor value overall.
First of all the way your experience is advertised and worded is kind of confusing.
“This is a hands on gelato making experience where you and a partner will create one flavour of your choosing, and 4 pints each of your custom flavour to take home.” Each person will need their own individual ticket.”
You’re clearly forced to do this with a partner so you should either be selling these as a packaged deal or re word the experience, $160 is A LOT of money for 8 small tubs of ice cream. It would be more interesting and engaging if there was the opportunity to play with flavours more as well.
Secondly, for $160 you should be providing guests with a complimentary drink from the cafe or bar and make this a bit more of an “experience”, provide us with snack, maybe a couple small sample pints to take home.
Thirdly, if other guests are late then that’s on you guys to lock the doors rather than wait for them and then rush us through our experience.
Fourth, skip your tour and provide the guests with a drink or cocktail. Your warehouse isn’t very interesting (sorry) but walking to the back to see two milk lines and dry storage while I wait for my gelato to freeze isn’t worth $160.
Fifth, on the tasting portion for you to only crack open 4 or 5 flavours is pretty lame and pretty cheap. The tasting should be done before making the gelato for inspiration.
Overall, the value wasn’t there and I would NOT recommend this to friends or family. You have a good idea here but need to execute it better. I think $100 would be slightly more reasonable for 2 people for the experience I had. Or $160 for me and partner to make our...
Read moreI was attending the Calgary Folk Music Festival while I was visiting from minnesota this weekend and despite the great gelato, I have to say that I was SICKENED with my experience regarding one particular staff member.
As someone who's worked in food service before, I understand that things get tough sometimes behind the line and during rushes. I was told that their London Fog gelato wasn't available and told to come back around 20 minutes. Fine with me, I was willing to wait. I came back in line 20 minutes later of course, and as I was getting up to one of the tills I watched a woman who was working there ask the manager (I think) wearing a cowboy hat about something politely (I couldn't really tell what she was saying) to which he said "can you stop asking me every 2 minutes" with such a harsh and ungrateful tone as if this poor woman had been berating her. He looked visibly annoyed that someone asked him a simple question. That moment left such a bad taste in my mouth. I had other friends who had attended the festival too across the weekends and they all said this guy was kinda rude to his staff and had heard him making demeaning jokes and remarks about some of the young women working.
I love small businesses but this makes me question how a business can have a guy who berates his staff like this working in front of people. Seeing a man berate younger women is horrible, especially seeing posts about how many women are involved in the company by the looks of it. Can't say I will support this business or recommend it to any of my friends either. And before you ask, no I don't want a tour and tasting from a company who lets a man like that talk...
Read moreI first stumbled onto Fiasco by accident when my fiance and I were looking for a healthy dessert that met certain dietary restrictions. The restaurant produced small snack sized containers of Fiasco Gelato which we were pleased to learn was also local! It was delicious!
Not long after I stumbled into one of their food trucks at a festival and I eagerly submitted my taste buds to it's yummy goodness!
Seems like Fiasco has really picked up since, I've seen it at Co-op and Planet Organic which is very cool! Usually if I'm craving it I'll make the effort to grab it right from the HQ though! Luckily it's not too far from my work, but it might be a tad off the beaten path for others (NE off Memorial and Barlow). Small little operation with a quaint store display and fixtures; nothing over the top, very boutique'esk. Among the front end sales area you'll see the employees hard at work on the computers and the actual magic of making it appears to happen in the back, it would be cool to see this sometime.
The product itself is the really gem, it's so tasty and delicious and the nutritional content is quite reasonable for this quite of product. It's awesome that they use so many fresh ingredients! Also the flavors and options are always changing and they do an amazing job catering to the season. For instance I just had a mason jar of their "Mini Egg" for Easter, mmm! Honestly ate it all in one sitting with my fiance haha. Price is quite premium but it's a premium product imo, so it's not unjust. Definitely...
