Sun Island Eatery — Restaurant in Calgary

I want to share my Father's Day dinner experience so that others don't have to deal with the same issues that we had to deal with this evening.

Our favourite Chinese food restaurant in South Calgary has been Sun Island Eatery for many years. I placed an order at 5:30 pm for a dinner for two and was told that it could take 2 hours before the food would be delivered. I was okay with that and placed the order. I asked if they would have a machine to take a credit card payment which they confirmed. It was Father's Day and we ate a late brunch so 2 hours was fine.

At 7:00 pm I received a phone call asking about the payment type and let them know that I had confirmed a credit card payment when I placed the order. I was then told that if I paid cash it would be another half an hour which was 2 hours from when we placed the order, but I was also told that it would take longer if I used my credit card. I agreed to pay cash to get the order as planned.

At 7:45 I called to see when we would receive the order. They were going to call the driver and let us know. They also said that it would be fresh and warm when it arrived. They called back at 7:55 and told me it was going to be another 20 minutes. The restaurant is a 6 to 10 minute drive from our house. I told them that if it didn't arrive on time it would be free.

At 8:15 I called again, but it arrived a few minutes later so I still paid. We got a 10% discount, but I called back to let them know that the food was cold and not fresh as they had promised, and that it was the last order that they will ever receive from us.

Our other favourite is Mighty Mango. They will be our go to choice in the future.

Maybe this was a one off experience, but they did not do what they said they would do on 4 occasions during this order process.

I originally came from Mississauga, Ontario province, recently arrived in Calgary on May 22, 2023 around 8:00 pm Mountain standard time by car. My wife and I were hungry on the way to Calgary on road. My wife looked Chinese restaurant by online and found Sun Island eatery. Sun island eatery has offered pick up good deal discount when I spend money between $80 - $96 for few orders. The taste of food is absolutely delicious. I just realized when my wife ordered shrimp egg foo yong and we got shrimp chop suey vegetable. I totally understood and tolerate that they gave a wrong food order when they packed my food. Next day, I came back to tell the truth that I got wrong food order. Flora , the owner, was very nice and politely apologize and giving a half price discount for next shrimp egg foo yoong. I keep coming back to buy food three times a week because the taste of food delicious and acceptable for all people's taste in general. Overall , the taste of foods are delicious. Really upset at the decline in the quality of service!! The guy who answered the phone this evening, puts me on hold and doesn’t even have any personality, he just tells me to hold and then drops the phone. He then takes me order, with ZERO customer service and rushes through my phone call so quickly that he forgot one of my dishes!! I like when Jenny answers the phone! She is so nice and so sweet. I called back to say that he forgot one of my dishes and his response was “I did not! I read back the order - don’t you remember?! Don’t you? “ Luckily the owner came on the phone and apologized and offered to deliver my dish to the house, and I could still hear him in the background exclaiming that I didn’t order the food and I shouldn’t receive my chicken dish!!
