We made reservations a few days ago for 5.45pm. Why that is important to mention is that, by 6.52pm, they had asked if we wanted our bill, promptly brought our bill and stood waiting with a credit card machine and then mentioned that the next reservations was here. I felt we were pushed out of our table! I'm not sure if that was common to have only tables reserved for an hour at a time but I certainly didn't feel valued by their actions. Usually, I give us 1.5 hrs to eat a nice meal. Considering that (1) we ate over $240 for the 4 of us, we certainly were not just sitting around drinking sake, and (2) other tables were just sitting and chatting so why we were the ones spoken to is absolutely terrible. My suggestion is to sit them at the available table 3 down from us. I don't care if it was reserved for another booking! Juggle things around! The food was ok. The menu is quite extensive so lots of options of both cooked and sushi dishes. I found the salad dressing too vinegary and salty. My garden salad was comprised of mixed greens with a few pieces of asparagus. The unagi was cold and unseared. The salmon was almost like a cube chunk rather than thin as one expects of sushi. There was some unique fish that I've never tasted before so that was nice but for $6 a piece! Ouch! Our beef tataki was cut in thicker slices instead of more shaved, and again a much too vinegary and salty sauce. The uni was surprisingly nice. The vast amount of wasabi and ginger we got was to choke a horse though! I'm sure it was nice to give us so much but what a waste! I waiver of giving this place a 2 or 3 star. Maybe they are better when they aren't as busy although based on reviews, they sure seem to always be packed. I think I'll spend my $240...
Read moreI took my family of four to this place based on the good reviews I found online. Overall this was the one time I was very disappointed because of the great things people said about this place, we were excited to try it. We made an appointment at 7.15. When we arrived we weren't seated until 7.45 even though we had an appointment. Staff looked frantic running around quickly but not addressing the customers at the front door. What they needed was a dedicated host or hostess to alleviate the customers and delivery drivers who were lined up to the street outside, but no host was present. Finally got seated and ordered $120 worth of assorted sushi and appetizers. I will say this right away, everything we were served was average at best, and some things were gross like the fried tofu which was soggy and under cooked it seems. I was very disappointed because I just wanted one of the many dishes we ordered to be great but none of them were. The sushi was rushed and sloppy and frankly not very tasty. I feel that everyone there including the chefs were in a rush to get things out and the food quality suffered because of it. Also this place was supposed to be authentic japanese food, but I have had better sushi at cheaper chinese run sushi restaurants in the city. Dont believe the hype about this place. It's sad because this place could be amazing if they hired better staff and concentrated more on...
Read moreThe prices are quite high, but I have no doubt the food is excellent, but at these prices I opted out. It's important to note that the freshness of the seafood can vary significantly depending on the day it arrives, which can greatly impact your dining experience.
At 6 pm, the restaurant had a calm atmosphere with just three other patrons. However, I found the menu prices to be a bit higher than I expected, which influenced my decision to dine elsewhere.
The establishment was generally clean, though the food-stained paper dividers between some tables stood out as an issue. The background music selection is a mix of contemporary jazz that leans toward elevator and hotel lounge vibes.
The waiter’s condescending attitude when I mentioned I couldn’t afford a full meal was quite frustrating, especially when he insinuated that I could at least have a roll. I also noticed additional staff laughing and making jokes at my expense. Given this experience, I feel it is only reasonable to take my business elsewhere.
In the landscape of dining, sometimes you encounter a mix of experiences. The good news is that Calgary boasts a diverse array of Japanese restaurants, offering plenty of options to explore and enjoy.
One day, I might return when I can splurge over $100 on a full meal. Let's be honest—six pieces of sashimi for $20 won't cut it; it’ll only leave my pockets feeling...
