Swiss Chalet — Restaurant in Calgary

I was in the restaurant with my family today for dinner at about 5:30 PM. Our waitress was nice , we ordered two appetizers, when they came out one of them was incorrect, the waitress did not bring them to us, it was another lady, so we explained to her it was the wrong appetizer, and also asked her for a few side plates. She simply just took the item away, she didn’t ask what we had ordered, she didn’t say OK I’ll bring you the plates.....nothing . No side plates were brought.... although I think that would just be a given since you are bringing three people appetizers, how are we supposed to eat them?

A few moments later our waitress came over to us to confirm what we had ordered, and brought it over to us. We ordered the perogies and stuffed garlic cheese loaf , the cheese loaf was brought out and the bottom of the plate was LATHERED in garlic, oil....it was awful.

We ordered our meals and one was the chicken wrap and fries. The fries were bland and not tasty at all and the chicken wrap had extremely large chunks of chicken in it, not even cut nicely, just big chunks, no taste at all. The other two orders were quarter chicken dinners. None of the food was presented nicely, just thrown on plates, zero for presentation that is for sure.

Anyways we received our bill, and were charged full price for everything, so I explained to the waitress that I think the bill should be adjusted. I went up to the front counter and a gentleman came out to speak with me, didn’t introduce himself just came over to me and rudely asked me what the problem was. I explained to him that we did not eat one of the two appetizers and explained why, so we should not be charged for it. And I felt that we should be charged half price or actually nothing for the chicken wrap since only one bite was taken from it and a handful of fries.

He proceeded to tell me that he did us a special order for the chicken wrap, because we asked for it to be with no tomatoes, I’m not sure how that was a special order, I assume the wrap is not premade, so I would think it would be simple to not put the tomatoes in.

I also said to him that the waitress should’ve explained to me that it was a special order, or that they cannot do it without tomatoes, that would’ve been completely fine with me.

He was very rude, unprofessional, not friendly, not helpful, zero customer service experience. He walked away, came back a few minutes later tossed me my receipt and said here you go and walked away. He had changed the price so I did not pay for the chicken wrap, but still paid for the appetizer that I did not eat!!!!

I asked my waitress while paying for my bill if I could get his name and if he was the manager and she told me that he was the owner....WHAT!!!!!!!!! I believe his name was Mo. I was completely floored, as I work in the service industry, and cannot believe that is how he handled a customer. I, personally thought he was a manager, but to find out he was the owner of the restaurant was completely disgusting!!!

I would never, ever, ever come back to this establishment, and highly highly recommend that nobody else does. Completely, disgusting, behaviour from...

Right off the bat, terrible service. Walked into countless tables not cleared and told to sit at one so we chose a different spot. Sitting for almost 10 minutes before a server came.

Server shows up seemed ok took our order didn’t write anything down. Figured ok no worries.

Finally shows up with drinks one is wrong. Not a huge deal. We ordered an appetizer a child’s meal and 2 adult meals. We received the meals fairly quickly before the appetizer and still no kids meal came. The kids meal came last.

Not one thing besides the appetizer and one item on a plate was fresh. Everything was room temp or colder. We expressed the concern and were met with such arrogance from the server. She did not care what we had to say or the issue she offered to “re warm” it. I said no why would I want it heated back up. She claimed she offered a fresh meal which she did not. I personally had the chicken and ribs with mash all cold. I took one bite from the rib it was cold I took 2 bites of chicken both cold mash was room temp. So I ate the bread and chalet sauce again cold. My husband had the same with a baked potato. Half of the topping was missing and yet again all his food was cold. The mixed up my child’s drink so which he took one sip and didn’t not want it so we asked for his original order it came when he was half done his meal. His fries were not fresh they for sure were sitting out for a period of time.

All of this concern and the waitress did nothing but be rude and arrogant and entitled the entire time. She threatened to flag us and call.. I asked who she was calling after she was stating I was refusing to pay (which I was not). She would not answer me. I talked to the supervisor to which she gave 1/2 off my meal that I hardly even touched and 14$ off the entire meal that we told concerns about then entire time at no point were we rude or disrespectful. The supervisor offered a fresh meal AFTER the table was being cleared, AFTER her employee disrespected and threatened to flag us for showing concern of the food standard. Her employee stormed off saying I wasn’t paying which I clearly said I was paying for the items we did eat even though it was terrible. She came back 10 mins later with a very different tone and had us pay for what was actually consumed.

The poor table behind us stopped me and said what poor service and how rude of that waitress, and questioned how she could be so rude to customers.

Needless to say this was the worst experience dinning out me and my family have ever received and we will absolutely not...

DISGUSTING! Do not waste your time and money on this place!

We went there for dinner last night. She ordered the quarter chicken dinner. I ordered the rotisserie beef dinner. It looked good on the menu. Also ordered the spinach dip. The dip was ok, not great but just ok. My partners chicken was ok but very dry, and hard to chew and swallow.

My rotisserie beef was horrible. They used the cheapest cut of meat they could buy. It was not at all like the menu picture. I had the large portion as I was hungry. The meat was sliced very thin and it was loaded with fat and gristle. Disgusting! The meat was tough and tasteless. Need an axe to cut it. They soaked it in gravy in an apparent effort to give it some flavour. I ate some of it but finally tossed my knife and fork down in the middle of it and pushed it aside. The bun was old, stale and hard as a rock. Didn't even try to cut it. Would have been easier it eat a hockey puck. Gross!

The waitress walked by once only to ask how things were but she didn't even stop, just kept walking before I could say one word. Never even once offered to refill our bottomless drinks.

She finally came to ask if we were done. I politely expressed my dissatisfaction with the meal. She asked if she could bring something else. No. offered me a free dessert. No. finally brought the bill, charging full price for everything including the 21 dollar dinner I only picked at. She gave me a card for a 10% discount on our next meal. Any decent restaurant would take a bad meal off the bill and the manager would offer an apology. Not this place....

I paid the bill, gave her a moderate tip. Not her fault the meal was bad. But her service wasn't very good either.

I will never dine here again. If I could give zero stars I would.

After all that, I went home and made myself something to eat.

We frequently buy take-out here too. Not great either. Seems they scrape the bottom of the bin for the fries. Always a pile of little short leftover things. Hard buns, small portions, especially if we use a coupon.

The Swiss Chalet on McLeod is way better. We will drive...
