The Donair Place & Mediterranean Cuisine — Restaurant in Calgary

WASTE OF MONEY! Ordered a beef Donair from here because it was close and convenient, really wishing I didn’t. The pita was quite chewy, didn’t seem overly fresh as well as the beef which was heavily salted and seemed to have been either over cooked or had been sitting for a while, very dry. They forgot items that I had asked for in the wrap and instead added items I did not want nor did I ask for. They were very light with the sauce so the whole thing was dry, and at least if they were heavy handed with the sauce it would mask the obvious taste and texture of the mushy vegetables they had put it. This place is pricey, for what you get the value is not there. I’m not sure who owns this or for how long they have but I would definitely step up my game if I were them as there are a number of better Donair places in the city. Will not be returning. I gave most of the wrap to someone else to eat and they couldn’t eat it and instead tossed it in the trash. ...

This place has always been a favorite and is recommended to everyone I know until today. There was a maggot found in my beef donair, when confronting the old man (the owner) about the issue, WITH THE DONAIR AND LARVA IN HAND, he tried to claim that the larva came from outside but I was eating in my car - no way a larva could have just dropped in my food. While taking the picture of the bug on my donair, the owner got more upset and was demanding me to throw it out. The owner was extremely rude and kept denying the issue and after many minutes of arguing, he finally gave me my money back and then told me to leave instantly. This is absolutely revolting, especially when there is a chance that I had eaten a bug. The dismissal from the owner is the worst part of this because it shows that he has a complete disregard for his customers well being. At least own up to the fact that your restaurant is infested and you continue to serve customers...

I have been going here for donairs for quite a few years now as they are in my neighborhood. The restaurant is very clean and I have always received excellent service. They make an alright donair too which is very filling and a good value. I like them warming up the fresh pita shell first in the press and the topping ingredients and hot and sweet sauce are quite adequate. I have though found lately that the meat has been a bit dry and tough like it was overdone too long on the spinner and the tomatoes had a mushy pulpy feel not as fresh. I might of just hit it on the wrong day I guess but it has happened the last few times. I will go back as they are the only donair store nearby and have provided many good...
