Burwood Distillery — Attraction in Calgary

I had an absolutely fabulous luncheon at Burwood Distillery. Tried several varying cocktails, each of which had a fantastic and unique flavour akin to the brewing style itself. Found myself highly addicted future-wise to various forms of honey liquor. And the Duck Bacon Carbona was out of this world and worth far beyond the value of what I paid. I'm highly excited about this distillery and hope to see much more of it in the near future with my career change. 'Liz' was a master bartender and an absolute encyclopedia of knowledge, and her understanding of all products and her mastery of flavour recognition is above and beyond what one could expect out of 99 percent of restaurants. I would highly recommend having her explain the tasting flight of possible, and you will be amazed at the conclusions you reach about certain flavours. My husband and I were on vacation in the Canmore/Banff area and spent our last couple days in Calgary before flying back to the states. We enjoy attending distillery tours so I did some research before our trip and booked a tour and tasting at Burwood. My first impression was that the facility is amazing! Great outdoor patio, beautiful historic interior, with gorgeous painted murals on the walls. We ended up having our own private tour guide, Tyler, that was a friendly fountain of knowledge. We’ve been on many distillery tours in the states so it was fascinating to discover not only the differences but also the similarities. We also really enjoyed the tastings. Wow! We were looking to break out of the craft brewery tour, to try something new. What a positive experience! From the moment we walked in the door, I knew we were in for a treat. We were personally greeted at he door, by one of the bartenders, even though it was quite busy. The layout and feel of the premise was contemporary, yet very cozy. After being invited to make ourselves comfortable, our server made an introduction and provided an explanation of our impending experience. Started with a cinnamon-pineapple mojito and the house pickles. Crazy flavour and crisp presentation. We worked our way the the cocktail menu, prior to eating dinner, re-ordering our favorites afterwards (give yourself 2-3 hours).
