A Neighborhood Gem: Shawarma Place.
Shawarma Place has become a true standout in our community since Jay, the new owner, took over. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted by Jay’s warm smile and friendly demeanor. His genuine kindness and inviting personality set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. It’s clear he takes pride in not just the food but also in creating a welcoming atmosphere for every customer.
The food here is consistently excellent, with the chicken shawarma plate being an absolute highlight. The perfectly seasoned chicken pairs beautifully with the creamy hummus, flavorful rice, and the star of the show—the garlic and spicy garlic sauces. Each bite is a perfect blend of flavors that keep you coming back for more. As someone who appreciates the details, I have to mention how fresh and well-balanced every component of the plate feels. It’s the kind of meal you crave on both busy weekdays and relaxed weekends.
In the six or seven visits I’ve made to Shawarma Place, I’ve almost always had an outstanding experience. There was only one instance where the chicken was overcooked and dry, and this happened to be when a temporary worker was serving that day. It was a minor hiccup in an otherwise consistent track record. Outside of that one instance, the food has been nothing short of stellar, and the interactions with the owner and staff have always been kind and uplifting. The employees Jay has hired seem to have been chosen as carefully as the ingredients in the food—humble, courteous, and dedicated to ensuring a pleasant experience.
It’s worth noting how much the place has improved since Jay took over from the previous owners. The transformation is noticeable, and it’s unfortunate that some lingering negative reviews from the old management still affect their reputation. Additionally, there are a surprising number of one-star reviews with no explanation, which feels suspicious and unfair to a business that has clearly turned things around. Jay’s dedication and integrity shine through, and it’s disheartening to see any unwarranted negativity cast on a place that works so hard to provide excellent food and service.
Looking ahead, I believe Shawarma Place has even greater potential to become a community favorite. Introducing weekly specials or daily deals could attract more customers and showcase their creativity with new flavors or combinations. With its prime location and consistent quality, this is a business that’s well-positioned to grow even further.
In conclusion, Shawarma Place has become a neighborhood gem thanks to Jay’s leadership, the quality of the food, and the inviting atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place that serves delicious meals with a personal touch, I highly recommend giving it a try. You won’t be...
Read moreI came here on Halloween from Ottawa. I got a chicken plater. I did not open it until I got to my location. I can not find the pictures that I took of the food, but there is one similar in the reviews but of a beef plater.
I Entered the establishment at approximately 5pm with no one in sight. After about 2 min I was finally greeted by a man who took my order. Keep in mind I was the only person in the store during what would be dinner rush hour in Ottawa. That should have been my first red flag. I didn't receive my food for 20 min as the had to heat things up including the chicken. Second red flag.
I frequently get chicken platers from Mr. Shawarma in Ottawa. The prices are similar but that's where the similarities end.
The food is in 1 half of the container. Piled on dried flavorless rice. The potatoes were cut too large, under seasoned and mushy, the portion of chicken was considerably small, barley covering the potatoes and rice. Also I need to mention that the quality of the chicken was so dry and crunchy that it resembles the chicken pieces that you would clean off a grill after cooking.
The other half of the container was the watery garlic sauce and grainy hummus. The salad was mixed to order and placed in a separate container, when upon opening three was a hair and the lettuce was browning and not fresh at all.
I decided to go ahead and try to eat it, as it was my only meal that day and I already spent my money. I was unable to return it after calling the establishment as they were unwilling to refund my money or even change the food.
After 1 bite I could not stomach eating it so I wrapped it up and purchased a poutine at the event I was attending. Which was awesome btw.
I was left so unsatisfied and approximately $26.00 less. I returned to Ottawa with the food so I could bring it to Mr. Shawarma on Baseline Rd to show them the difference in quality. I wanted to thank them for the food that they sell. And commend them for not only their customer service but quality, quantity and the price of their food as well. I want to mention that the portion size difference between the two, is significant. I can feed a family of four for the price with the portion of food i purchase from MR. SHAWARMA in Ottawa. I mentioned to the staff that moving forward, I will only purchase food from them when going to Carlton place for events in the future, and eat it cold, as it is hands down the best Shawarma foodI have ever tasted.
My final opinion of this place, I think they should reconsider how they present them selves in their establishment. I also think that they need a visit from health Canada.
AVOID SHAWARMA PLACE IN CARLTON PLACE. AT ALL...
Read moreAll these reviews regarding this place are just wrong. Objectively, the restaurant is not a 5-star, fancy eatery but a small shawarma house. You come in, get food, and eat/leave. Therefore, with the main mission of a place like this in mind, I’d say it succeeds very well.
First of all, to everyone complaining about prices, you can go to any other shawarma house in Ottawa and the prices are similar. Why? Inflation and the cost of food going up so they must increase prices as the dollar and costs worsen in order to make profit… btw the prices aren’t bad and I work for a little above minimum wage. Rating: 4.0/5
Secondly, they are nice people just don’t be annoying. I’ve went in multiple times over the course of my life and they’ve always told me some jokes and had a laugh… even when they are mad or sad they still provide quality service. They care about the customer. Rating : 4.2/5
Third and finally, the food is amazing. A classic shawarma is the best tasting, no matter the meat you get. Shawarma plates are even better but the best part of the menu is 100% the garlic and potatoes. No better in Ottawa in my opinion. Rating: 5/5
To conclude, this restaurant does its job of providing delicious food at decent prices and with quality service efficiently. None of these other reviews are realistic since any other immigrant shop is the exact same atmospherically and service wise and the food may vary. Yea they have an accent but it’s not the end of the world. OVERALL : 8.9/10. Fix...
