I love this place and have been a loyal customer since the day it opened, but the service has continued to go downhill to the point that it is now AWFUL. I love the food but I am starting to question whether it is worth the lousy experience.
For example, a few weeks ago we went here for dinner. We stood in the aisle between the tables for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone to seat us, or at least tell us it was okay to seat ourselves. It wasn't busy, there was only one other couple there. While we were waiting the guy in the kitchen saw me, said something to another employee while making direct eye contact with me, then turned and walked away and completely ignored us. I finally went up to the counter to ask for a table, only to find the waiter sitting in a chair hidden behind the counter, completely avoiding us! Once we finally got a table and he brought our food out, he immediately went back to the chair and ignored us for the rest of our meal. No refilling our waters or clearing empty plates or asking if we'd like dessert. Didn't say a word to us as we paid our bill and left. We were thoroughly annoyed, but figured it was just an off night.
Yesterday we went for dinner and there was a new waitress working, so we were hopeful that the experience would be better. Boy, were we wrong!!! When we arrived there were several dirty tables, none of which were cleaned during the time we were there, even though the restaurant was mostly empty and it wasn't busy. The waitress seemed like she had never had a job before, or even been to a restaurant. My boyfriend ordered a pop and had to ask several times before it was finally brought to the table. When she did bring it, it was a can with a straw jammed into it, which I found very tacky - the least she can do is put it in a glass! She never asked if he wanted a second one either. During our meal she stood behind the counter and stared into space, despite the dirty tables waiting to be cleaned and two other couples waiting for service. Three times our water glasses were empty and she never refilled them, we had to try to catch her attention to ask for refills while she lounged behind the counter. Once I actually had to get up and go to the counter to ask for a refill. Worst of all, when we finally got her to bring water to the table, all three times she came and refilled ONE of our glasses and then walked away, leaving the other person still without water! I couldn't believe the total apathy she had for even the most basic aspect of her job! After our meal we waited 15 minutes and we were never offered dessert or drink refills, and the bill was never brought to our table. When I went up to the counter to pay, the waitress typed a total charge from memory into the cash register - and considering she couldn't remember to fill both water glasses, I really don't trust her memory of our total! We never saw an itemized bill and I have no idea if we were charged the correct amount. The final straw was that my boyfriend's meal was awful - he ordered the Tibetan Chicken which sounded great on paper but turned out to be a slimy, greasy dish not unlike week-old General Tso's chicken from a very bad Chinese restaurant. My meal was okay, but rather bland since they've not stopped asking how much spice you want and instead are serving everything extremely mild. Neither one of us has ever had a bad meal at Himalayan before, so we were really shocked and disappointed by the sudden drop in quality.
I truly do love the food here, and I really hope they can get their act together to stay in business. It's the only place on the island for Indian food, but I think we'll be avoiding it...
Read moreAll I have to say is “Fantastic”!!
Firstly, there was just one girl handling the front including taking orders, serving, cleaning, packing orders and she did a fantastic job.
We asked for her recommendations based on what we wanted and she was the perfect guide. We ordered Chicken Vindaloo and asked for really hot which the restaurant stood up to. I have eaten Vindaloo several times and as I chef, I would say it was great.
Next, we asked for a Paneer based curry which isn’t sweet, but not even hot at the same time. We were recommended Paneer Masala and again the taste was good. I personally hate paneer dishes, but happen to like this one.
We ordered butter naan and garlic naan which happen to be decent. The garlic on the naan was pretty raw which gave a little pungent taste, and the dough was a little too stretchy, but I would say not bad at all. The plain rice was fresh unlike many other places where the rice is stale.
I asked for a beer to drink while waiting for take-out but was denied as I was not dining in. It was a little strange for me but, it is the restaurant’s policy and I would not complain.
The atmosphere was a little too dark and was difficult for me to take, but everything was clean and great!
I don’t know the name of the person who helped me on July 2nd, 2023 around 10:00 PM, but a huge thanks to you! ☺️
Will definitely recommend...
Read moreThis restaurant has very unprofessional so called servers. I went there to eat some curry and naan. After completing my one naan that I got as a compliment, I wanted to order second naan. I waited for 10-12 minutes at table wondering if they are going to come to the table and ask me if I needed anything else. But, eventually I had to go to reception table to ask for an extra naan. Also, there were people only on 2 tables and they had 2 servers who were just chatting with each other for last 15 minutes. Even though I was looking at them and my plates were empty, both didn’t bother to ask me if I needed anything else. They seemed like they had no training about how to give customers hospitality. After I asked for extra naan, she comes back after 5 minutes saying they were out of naan. I wasn’t even hungry by that point. And I don’t understand how they can be open if they ran out of naan or maybe they were making excuses to not to make a naan. They still had 1.15 hours left until closing time.
Overall, I would recommend to give both servers some training about how to do their job. It’s just not about serving them once at start and just, keep...
