It's not often that I go out of my way to speak with a manager to let them know what a fantastic overall experience I've had at their establishment, but that's just what I did, yesterday, when I had lunch at Biscotti & Cie. It was truly one of the best meals I've had, not just in the National Capital Region, but anywhere in the world. The menu was imaginative, the pizza (en par with anything I've eaten in Italy) and salad were divine, the service was excellent and the countryside setting on the patio was perfect. Also - the price was more than reasonable. I wish we had something like Biscotti & Cie in and around Toronto, but I have yet to come across anything quite like it. :( I'll go out of my way to cross the river the next time we're in Ottawa to dine there again. P.S. If I had ONE critique, it would be that, with the current situation re: COVID-19, I found some of the patio tables too close together (aka: not six feet of separation. Ours was not one of them, but towards the back, some of the tables were practically on top of one another, which is easily fixable, since the tables were easy to move around).

The garden outside is a lovey space to sit and eat. I’ll definitely come back for a coffee. As I am not into white flour products the choices are limited and unclear. The chalk menu above the counter needs some interpreting, especially when busy as it had several chalk boards that need to be navigated from a long snaking queue. We went on a busy sunny Saturday morning. This was my first time at this restaurant. As a first timer I had no idea what was on the menu. I couldn’t find a menu near the door when deciding whether we even wanted to eat there. We both avoid anything too bready and gluteny. Had I known it was mostly croissants, bagels and beautiful wood stove pizzas, we would have gone elsewhere. The menus can only be found at the counter where one orders and pays. The service was friendly and bilingual. The food looked great and my now stone cold pizza still tasted good. The salad didn’t have enough dressing that came with the bagel Benedict and a cold runny egg. I don’t like cold eggs on anything , eggs are meant to be hot unless it’s an egg salad sandwich. Our meal was sitting on the counter ready to be claimed, rapidly cooling off. Unfortunately, due to over reliance on technology and a lack of initiative, 50 minutes later my hand was forced to enquire with the pizza chefs to the whereabouts of our now cold meal, adorned by cold eggs. Someone should have taken the initiative and gone to call us, as our buzzer didn’t work. When I explained this to the server, she couldn’t care less. For those steep Chelsea prices I expect a little more. The restaurant felt like the team running it were “resting on their laurels”. Apropos , tips need to be earned! Why tip a server when the servers never leave the counter and don’t really care two hoots about customer service? Maybe servers should be paid a better wage, thereby inspiring them to take care and attention and instilling in them better customer service?

This was a beautiful little café in Chelsea, especially to enjoy some warm drinks with dessert after hiking. When we got there in the afternoon it was packed and a lot of the pastries were almost gone, which was a good sign and meant they were popular! My sister got the hazelnut tart and the mint mocha and I got the lemon tart and the gingerbread latte. Everything was delicious, the lemon tart was not too sweet and the hazelnut tart have a very rich ganache along with some textured hazelnut spread. However, I waited over 20 minutes for the drinks which was a bit frustrating… And don’t get me wrong, I work in customer service and completely understand the struggle when it gets chaotic, but even though the place was crazy busy, the barista took her time and wasn’t really rushing to get orders out:( also a bit too pricey but that’s to be expected at such a touristy place. overall good desserts, but be ready for a wait

The reasons for 3 stars: 1: they do not bake their signature waffles at store. Just open up a package and warm them up. 2: too crowded that the service is not great. The cashier is frustrated if you ask a question. A long lineup to wait in. Only one cashier available. 3: the pricing is not clear. The sweets in the glass show case do not have any prices at all and you know what you are paying till you receive a big bill. 4: a bit pricy. For 2 people to have a coffee, a sandwich, and a sweet each - $50 without being served. You could go to a restaurant and have a lunch + served. 5: tofu panini - just a slice of tofu patty and sauce. No veggies. 6: the coffee cup is a way too small. You can finish your coffee before finishing up food. 7: everyone is fighting for a table upstairs. We could not relax as a new group wanted to take over our table and was gazing us to have the last bite of food.

We’ve been for years to the café and hosted events there, but for the first time we had a disappointing experience. The measures taken for takeaway customers put unnecessary risks with Covid. Traffic is directed around to order, and in front of baked goods to wait for coffee, right in front of the same door used to enter and exit. As a result, after ordering coffees, we waited at least five minutes with clients coming right by us to look at food options prior to ordering and letting clients out. The logical order seems like it should be the opposite so waiting clients can see the food offerings and, if too many clients are waiting to order, they can line up outdoors. The inside was really crowded. Coffees and pastries are good, as usual, but the current measures for Covid led us to not return until a better system is in place (order ahead of time? Curbside pickup?)

Biscotti is a quint little place to warm up after a nice walk in the Gatineau Park. It offers a cozy atmosphere with mismatched furniture and decor which makes it completely charming. Great hot beverages selection and tasty oven baked pizzas (the pizza crust is delicious). The restaurant is pretty much a self-serve concept where you order at the counter and pretty much take care of the rest (you set your table, utensils, plates, napkins, get your food and dispose of it when you are done. I have nothing against this concept once you are familiar with it but the restaurant should make more of an effort to clean and disinfect tables between patrons. Otherwise lovely place!
