A Timeless Voyage into Nova Scotia's Rich History

Visiting Fo'c'sle Tavern was akin to stepping aboard a charming vessel navigating through time, offering a warm embrace of both history and unparalleled hospitality. Situated in the heart of Nova Scotia, this venerable establishment proudly stands as the oldest pub in the region, entwining tales of yore with delightful contemporary experiences. The ambiance, replete with nautical adornments and a comforting, rustic charm, instantly transports patrons to an era where sailors spun tales of high seas adventures over a hearty pint. Each dish tells a story, beautifully crafted with local ingredients, embodying the spirit and tradition of classic Canadian cuisine while leaving a unique, indelible mark on the palate. From the amiable staff, who treat each visitor not just as a customer but a welcomed friend, to the artfully curated selection of beverages that cater to diverse preferences, every moment spent within the walls of the Fo'c'sle Tavern is imbued with a sense of belonging and warm conviviality. Whether you’re a local or a traveler seeking authentic maritime experiences, this iconic pub not only serves drinks and dishes but also a rich, spirited taste of Nova Scotia's splendid history and culture. Five stars simply do not suffice to encapsulate the entirety of the warmth, history, and culinary excellence this venerable tavern generously bestows upon its guests. A visit to Fo'c'sle Tavern is not merely a dining experience; it is a cherished journey through the annals of time and a celebration of the rich maritime heritage that defines this...

I would not recommend this place to anyone. My boyfriend and I had never been there and decided to come here after spending the weekend in the area. The service was absolutely terrible - Our server was not attentive (we saw him twice) and was telling all of the tables he was serving that he hated the bar and that he was ‘sorry for being cranky’. Both of the tables he told that to looked at eachother after he left with confusion. Probably not something you should be running around telling all of your tables - very unprofessional. We waited 5 minutes for cutlery after our meals were in front of us, we weren’t asked how our meals were mid-way and we waited 10-15 minutes after our meals were done for him to come take our plates away and offer us the bill (which he didn’t) - so we ended up figuring out the price by ourselves and leaving money on the table. We also witnessed another table get up and get the food themselves from the kitchen which was crazy, and heard them say to him something about ‘self-service’ and the waiter replied with an argument followed by ‘no disrespect to you guys’ and then proceeded with how much he hated the place. We have never experienced anything like this before. My boyfriend had the fish n chips, which he said were good but the coleslaw was stale and looked like it was crusty and starting to separate. I had the ‘homemade’ lasagna which was extremely bland and it came with garlic ‘toast’ which was soggy and soft. Everything about this experience was terrible and it’s safe to say we will...

NOT child friendly at all and a discriminatory place against children. The hostess sat us in the bar side of restaurant at 3pm on a Sunday, right after we paid our $100+ bill (the place was almost empty), the manager asked us to leave because our 8 month old started making some noise for a couple minutes. The manager whispered to me saying “im not trying to start a scene but someone complained” … it was clearly this old man gambling on a slot machine beside us because the only other people were a nice couple from Boston we were chatting with during the complaint. This old man was gambling the whole time we were eating for over an hour spending no money at the restaurant, he complained about our children and the manager asked my wife to go outside with the baby while I chatted with the Boston family (that’s right, she asked me to tell my wife to go outside with our baby). If you are an old, lonely, gambling addict who’s most likely a local who hates life … this place is for you. If you’re a loving family and or friendly group of people… eat or drink somewhere else. I’d give this place zero stars if it...

Slimmy eggs, my husband ordered the all day breakfast, they asked how he liked his eggs, he replied,” over medium”, when it arrived, egg1 was broken, with clear slime oozing out of it, egg 2 was unbroken, however when penetrated by the toast clear slime emerged again from under the thin white film, I explained to waitress, who simply replied, “oh”, then walked away, no apology, reduction, refund or reheat was offered. The bacon was also very thick and fatty, again under cooked, the hash browns were tasteless frozen cubes ( thank heaven for the ketchup!) I had the fish and chips, the coleslaw was not fresh and the fish was at best bland, when I got home I felt sick. Certainly will not be returning to this venue!

I've had prime rib, wings, and a lobster roll on a croissant here so far, and all 3 were excellent. The wings are large, tender and moist inside with a perfectly crispy breaded skin. The prime rib was done perfectly as ordered to medium rare. It was tender and juicy, and came with a good selection of vegetables, horseradish, tasty demi glace, and Yorkshire pudding. A great weekly Sunday night dinner special, I will be returning to that for sure! The lobster roll that was on special was one of the best I've had. Service was quick and efficient, and our server was very attentive to our needs, and pleasant. A gem restaurant in a beautiful south shore town.
