Stopped in here for lunch as I love sushi and this place is never open for lunch when I am in Chestermere. It's a small and quaint family-run place that is quite clean and well-kept. The ambiance was a bit weird since there was no music and I was the only person dining (admittedly it was after the lunch rush). I always opt for the Bento box at a new Japanese restaurant to see if the preparation meets my taste. The miso soup was tasty and salty (it's hard to mess up miso though). The Cali roll was average for a sit-down restaurant, but came with loads of wasabi and ginger, which other places seem to skimp out on.
Then came the Bento box. I ordered chicken teriyaki with sushi (the roll) and tempura. My eyes were immediately drawn to the tempura pieces: three vegetable with a milky off-white coloured batter and two shrimp with deep orange panko breading. The shrimp were crispy and hot, although the batter layer was almost too dense to bite through easily. The tempura veggies were unimpressive. They tasted doughy as if the cooking oil was not hot enough. The chicken teriyaki had lots of chicken pieces, but the sauce was not very flavourful and runny. The salad had a strange dressing that tasted as if they mixed together ranch and Catalina.
I was desperate to.love this place, but it's definitely not on my list of restaurants I...
Read moreEdit February 7th- go to sushimazing in town, way better food, way better service. Surprised if this place stays open unless they make a change to actively improve.
Almost didn't come here due to the lower rating, but glad we decided to try it out! The food was really decent! The ramen is surprisingly good, but its not the best ive ever had by any stretch. The pork was perfectly cooked, but the egg was far too over cooked. It lacked the depth of flavor other places have. Portion size was very generous across all dishes had. Beef udon soup was alright, the broth lacked much flavor and depth of taste. We had the dragon kiss sushi which was alright, sushi was 4/5. Tempura shrimp were good and very crunchy, but the batter was a bit too thick for my preference 4/5. Service was decent, but I was confused when workers/owners came in smelling extremely heavy of Marijuana. As a fellow partaker, I didn't care. As a customer, I was weirded out a bit. All in all, if I was craving sushi/ramen and didn't want to go into calgary I would return, if I was craving really good food, I'd make the trip...
Read moreUsed to be very good and I frequently came there as I live quite close. But the last time I went the food was just meh and same with the service. When I showed the waitress a picture of something online from their restaurant that a customer had taken and uploaded onto google review, they just shrugged and said don't know. How about some effort here please? The salmon sashimi tasted frozen, the beef tataki also tasted frozen and was covered in a layer of grease. The mixed aburi dish is good. However though, the bubble tea was nasty (mango). I couldn't bring myself to drink it at all. If I needed a quick sushi meal in Chestermere, I'd just order the salmon don and continue praying for an actually good sushi restaurant to open up here...
