I'm 90% sure this place gave me food poisoning. I ordered the California croissant sandwich, and the “house made falafel” in it was gross. It was rock hard on the outside, dense and doughy inside, and had a foul, musty, almost fishy smell. I only managed one bite before deciding to eat around it, thinking maybe it just wasn’t to my taste. I didn’t mention the falafel to staff at the time, but I did bring up the hair I found in my dish. For compensation, they gave me a 50% discount….. I always thought a hair in your food warranted a full comp, especially since it's a basic hygiene issue. Maybe they didn’t fully void the item because I had already eaten more than half of the meal (minus the falafel), they just hadn’t handled a complaint like that before, or maybe they just really wanted to make 8$ either way, it was disappointing. There were other smaller issues too — long wait times (which I understand, they were busy) and bad coffee — but the falafel was by far the most concerning. I started feeling nauseous shortly after eating, and my friend who ordered the same thing said she felt sick too. On the drive home, I had to pull over to throw up, and then again once I got home. I have NEVER gotten sick like this from restaurant food. Making sure fryer oil is fresh and ingredients are stored safely should be basic standards. The smell alone should have warned me to send it back. Just one bite was enough to make me sick. I wouldn’t have written a review if it had just been about the bad taste (or even the hair), but this was a real food safety issue. Hours later I still feel nauseous. EAT HERE AT...
Read moreWe have been to Millie Oak twice in the past 3 months. We believed the first time to be a one off, slow service cold food. Jonathan was our waiter, very personable - didn’t believe it to be his fault.
Today we returned to give them a try. Sunday is a busy day for any breakfast restaurant - so we do understand this. However today I watched the front of the house staff fall apart, while the back of the house was not doing the greatest to keep up. Again Jonathan greeted and seated us.
From seat time to even drink order was over 20 minutes. Again, I get it - it’s busy - but not too busy to sling a cup of coffee. While I sat, I watched several people attend the front for a coffee refill as no server attended the tables (instead they were huddled around the pastry counter)
Once coffee came, no sugar - i asked but it did not come to the table. Had to attend the front counter for this. Unable to get a refill for quite some time.
Food came out, after many tables that sat after had been served. Food was cold, mediocre. The serving portion size is good. No one returned to the table again. No more coffee refills.
Went to front to pay, found server (female) to be quite rude during payment (maybe you aren’t supposed to go to front to pay - but no one came to table so?)
We won’t be back. And judging from the conversations at the tables around - neither will they.
Table of 3 - $80 bill Attended prior to noon, not served food...
Read moreThe menu has some intriguing features and I ordered accordingly. For my beverage I had the lavender white hot chocolate. It was phenomenal and I would order it again. I decided to try the grilled peach avocado toast with fruit salad. The toast comes with two eggs any style. I went with hard poached and they were cooked to order. (Most places have trouble getting the poach hard, but not here.) The toast is waffles, which was a nice twist. It was topped with grilled peaches, the eggs, generous slices of avocado, goat cheese, pine nuts and a very tasty type of sprout or other green. (Sorry, can't remember the name.) It was a unique and delicious combination. The fruit salad, however, should have been tossed out a day or two ago. The pineapple was withered and looks like it had sat uncovered for quite awhile. The watermelon was not fresh...it had lost it's crispness. There were also pomegranate aerials, which were fine. I imagine the fruit salad was lovely a couple days ago, but should not have been served like it was. I looked at the dessert case and there is quite a lovely variety. I bought a fresh cinnamon bun to go. For later. Later didn't happen ... it was still warm and was so yummy. (I did share it, it was a generous size.) Overall, I feel the menu and presentation is classy. The unique combinations are a delight. There is room for improvement with some things, as other reviews state, but I definitely...
