Chuck's Roadhouse Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Clarington

Really really disappointed, we were really looking forward to trying this new restaurant, friends and family rave about the location in Whitby.

It took over an hour for the food to come out of the kitchen, our waitress came by our table several times to let us know that the kitchen was backed up and it would be a little while longer.

A 1lb order of wings was $12.69, we were served 8 SMALL wings that were wet inside and tasted like they had definitely been frozen. The wings didn’t come with ranch sauce or carrots or celery. My daughter (she’s 4) orders plain wings so we asked for a honey garlic on the side instead of having the wings tossed in it for her and when the bill came they charged an additional $1.50 for the honey garlic sauce. What’s the difference if it’s on the side or if the wings are tossed in it ????? So we paid $14.19 for TERRIBLE wings.

My son ordered the kiddie size chicken fingers and fries and they were fine, nothing great, but edible and dry at least on the inside.

My wife got an adult order of chicken fingers and fries. The chicken fingers were fine again, the fries were grainy inside and looked like they were the bottom of the basket and they were just trying to get rid of what they had instead of cooking new ones. She asked for a ranch sauce on the side, the ranch they brought out was in a tiny little shooter cup and was also an additional $1.50 on the bill.

I ordered Chucks Crispy Chicken. What a mistake. The chicken was at best an eighth of an inch thick ( nothing like Montana’s which gives amazing thick crunchy delicious chicken sandwiches) McDonald’s crispy chicken sandwich has more chicken on it. The chicken was CHEWY rather then crispy, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was sitting under a heat lamp for a LONG time. The lettuce was wilted and slimy on the edges, the tomato was fresh as far as I could tell. Their signature jalapeño-lime aioli, well, I had my wife try it too and we both agreed there was absolutely no jalapeño or lime there and it was definitely just straight up Hellman’s mayonnaise. The fries were grainy inside and there were very few. Basically a McDonald’s large fry and mchicken would have been more food and a lot more satisfying which doesn’t say much since McPukes is really garbage food.

PLEASE AVOID THIS RESTAURAUNT, it cost us over $60 dollars for this “meal” (which isn’t a ton but I work hard for my money and don’t like to waste it). Take your money and go to One Eyed Jacks or Montana’s , it might be marginally more expensive (probably not even) but at least you’ll get some decent food.

I had absolutely terrible experience at this location: starting from the server who looks like in her own world, ending with disgusting steak. I have been in other locations so many times, and every single time, I was happy with everything, BUT THIS i would definitely not go there! Waitress was not paying any attention, was not friendly, i wish I knew her name, but she did not introduce herself. I ordered Ceasar cocktail, and it felt like I was drinking pepper with ice , no proper garnish either. I was hoping that at least food would be good , however disappointments didn't end there. We were waiting for our food for so long and our Waitress never came back to us with updates (it was not busy at all and the had enough people working) after 30 min I asked the other girl for the update , she was kind and after few more min food came in , as soon I cut my steak i realized that is completely not what I ordered, I think anyone can spot the difference between well done and medium rare steak! She never asked about how was my food . I give it a try to eat but it was just disgusting. She came back for us only when Bill needed to be served time, and I said I'm absolutely not happy with it and I'm not gonna pay for it . If she would of asked me in the beginning how IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SHE WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT. When I had to pay for the rest of the things she brought me a machine , I paid and clicked on print the receipt, ofcourse machine was out of paper. When I said that I need my receipt but there is no paper she took it and brought it again for me to pay! I thought i will boom !!!!!!! Really?????? So anyways , since manager never came out to see if the customers are satisfied I decided to leave it here for you! I hope for the future you will treat people as you want to be treated!!!!!!! So I reluctantly went to Chuck's tonight due to past experiences and current negative press, but it was where the group was headed and I was just an invited guest.

I'm so glad I went!

I met Jake, who's been working there since the previous management was in charge. He's experienced the entire transition. He explained to me the tip out that one server shredded the establishment for (the entire reason we're all here reading the reviews. You know the incident I'm referring to). It's basically every tip out procedure that I've ever had to pay in my 20 years in the insidustry. You know as a server that you tip out the kitchen and the hosts. That's always been the case. He is very happy with the new management and assured me that if I tipped via debit, he'd get it and that nothing nefarious was going on with the payouts. He was credible and I believed him.

That being said. Jake is amazing! I had something significant to celebrate tonight to he decorated my basic shot with an added layer of love (this is a bare bones sports bar so sugar/salt rims are not a thing). He was so excited FOR me regarding my good news that he made the presentation of my shot pretty and special.

As for the honest to goodness tax. I originally was like *that! But when I got there and realized how cheap everything was I was calmed. It all works out in the wash, trust me. This place is asking 4 dollars for shots etc.. The honest to goodness tax can take my money as far as I'm concerned. Pshh.

Bottom line. I was a hater based on the social media smear that's happening right now. I should know better to be honest, but I'm human and got caught in the web. I went to the horses mouth and got the truth. Not only am I satisfied, but I'm thrilled at the service and the explanations that Jake provided.
