I frequented this place lots when they first opened to support the "litttle guy". This location has a history of not doing well and there really aren't any good restaurants in the Courtice area. Unfortunately the food quality drove me away. I come back from time to time to see if things have gotten better but always leave disappointed.
For a smoke house I would think the ribs should be a signature dish. He uses side ribs I guess because they are cheap? They are dry and tough... every time I've gotten them. We still want to support a local independent restaurant but the last couple times we got the ribs for take out more then half of them ended up in the garbage since we couldn't find anybody that wanted to eat them. I've had the catfish from here and it was great but I haven't had it in a while. I've seen the poutine and it looked awesome but I haven't tried it yet. So maybe there are some gems on the menu.
He does have a taste for good beer and supports local craft breweries. Another reason why I would like to see them do well. Just sorry about your ribs.
I wanted to add that they have an awesome patio spot, but again they cheaped out on this too. They have a very unique location for a patio and it's beautiful. Unfortunately they did the cheapest job possible complete with uneven pavers, plastic tables, and plastic chairs.
Seriously guys, I really want to support you. We are saturated with cheap mediocre restaurants in this area so don't try to compete on that level. Focus on quality and charge what ever you need to for it and I'll be there. There is money in this area with people willing to pay. It's a common complaint with the neighbours how far we have to drive for a good restaurant. Having one local would be gold. Right now Tetra and Bistro 67 are the closest quality restaurants for us Courtice folk. You're in a position to take a lot of the clientele for the area so do it before someone else does.
Sorry to sound harsh. Wish you the...
Read moreI had heard good things about Stuttering John's Smoke house, and when my employer announced they were bringing in Stuttering John's food truck, I was looking forward to it.
Food Trucks are quite popular now, in part becausd the competition is fierce amongst them. The vendors seem to go above and. beyond to present their best fares.
I love Smokehouse food, and was anticipating a nice lunch. Wow! was I disappointed. I ordered the pulled pork belly sandwich with baked beans. The beans were hot, and hey who doesn't like Libby's beans, because that's what they were. The sandwhich on the other hand was not hot, not even tepid, it was refrigerator cold. To be clear, the bun the meat, and the. corn bread all required microwaving.
The meat was devoid of any flavour, so one would expect a selection. of BBQ sauces to be available to cover up the lack of taste, but nothing was proffered. Even the lowly condiment, ketchup might have helped.
A food truck like this, should be an Ambassador for the restaurant it represents. It should make the consumer want to go, to the brick and mortar location to sample the entire menu. Unfortunately the food offered was reminiscent of a vending machine, or the pre packaged sandwiches in a gas station. While we have all eaten that sort of thing, seldom has it been enjoyed.
The restaurant itself, i have not tried, and it may be wonderful, but the truck is a definite...
Read moreWe did not have an enjoyable experience! The food is not child friendly, which we called ahead to ask if it was. The overall food was revolting. We complained about our sons rock hard cheeseburger, which was made again. The 2nd cheeseburger came out exactly the same, waitress said "yah the kids patties tend to be harder cause they are thin" if thats the case then why would she suggest to make another?? My husband's goatcheese burger was tangy, my daughter's pulled pork was way over done, and finally my steak..... well it was suppose to be medium rare, it came cool in temperature, fully cooked, no trace of blood on my plate what so ever, which clearly has no rare to it......seen no point in discussing our complaints with anyone further. We understood why the restaurant was empty at 530pm on a Saturday. Would rather have eaten Macdonalds!!! NEVER eating...
