Have lived in the Cole Harbour area most of my life and have eaten at Fong's as far back as I can remember, certainly more than 30 years. I knew ownership had changed hands. We just ordered a takeout order for the first time since the new ownership and I must say that the Vegetable Guy Ding was the worst Guy Ding I ever saw in my life. It was over 60% large chunks of slimy onions 20% of large chunks of green pepper 10% carrots (the only thing that was edible), and a few other small amounts of something including frozen corn. It was horrible and uneditable.
I would add to that that I phoned them and told them of our experience and suggested they hold a credit for $10 for the next time we're in. They called me back 15 minutes later and offered me a five dollar credit. Strike 2!
I told them they would never do business with them again and that I would spread the word at how horrible the food was and how cheap they were to try to dicker over a $5.00 credit. Don't waste your time or money. Not very intelligent service for new owners. They are off my places to eat forever.
Tan's restaurant up the street is better (except for one of the...
Read moreI had heard the food here had changed, possibly to new ownership, but hadn't tried it for about 3 years. Not a veggie fan, so it was one of only a few places where I could enjoy an egg roll without finding strings of veggies inside. Heh heh. And I remember combos that offered me two of my faviurite things together,
I found neither this time. Egg rolls are meaty, but detectable veggies, so not to my taste. And the combos have changed ,(as all places tend to do), and I couldn't find a combo plate with 2 meat items I liked together.
My companion seemed to thoroughly enjoy her mixed plate, so the quality of the food is not being critiqued so much as the selection.
Service was prompt and accurate, and the atmosphere is much nicer than chain...
Read moreWe’ve tried a few Chinese restaurants since moving to HRM in January, but we keep going back to Fong’s. It’s become our go-to for takeout. We haven’t eaten in yet, but I’ve picked up our food a few times and the restaurant has this amazing retro charm with what I believe is the original decor. It feels authentic in the best possible way.
The food is consistently hot, fresh, and delicious. We’ve had a number of chicken dishes and every single one has been flavourful and satisfying. The Fong’s Special Fried Rice deserves a shout-out. It’s honestly exceptional and always part of our order. Prices are reasonable and the portions are generous.
Fong’s delivers every time and we’re so glad we found them....
