I've lived in Comox for about 3 years, and have eaten at just about every sushi place in the valley. I can't really say I've had a bad experience at any of them, but Sushi Kobo is the one that keeps me coming back every time. They have great food options, generous portions, lower prices than most, and a truly authentic vibe that sets it apart from the rest. The family that runs it is incredibly kind and welcoming. They remember their regular customers, and go out of their way to make every meal perfect. When you think of a local business worth supporting, Sushi Kobo should be high on your list. It's not only my favourite sushi place, but it's also my top choice for takeout of any kind. I like to try different menu items from time to time, but I get the chicken karaage with just about every order. Their rolls are all fantastic, and some of the more exotic options are surprisingly good. I'd say their spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls are personal favourites. When I'm feeling more like soup, the chicken udon is my go-to. I could go on about just about every item on the menu, but I'll just say that nothing I've had from Sushi Kobo has ever been disappointing. They clearly put time and care into everything they make. If you're ordering on a busy night, be prepared to wait. This isn't a huge chain restaurant that has an army of chefs out back. It's a family-owned and operated restaurant where each dish is made to order with care. When you call in with your order, they will give you an estimate of when it will be ready, and they're usually right on time, give or take 5 minutes. No matter the wait, it's always worth it. Give Sushi Kobo a try, and you'll quickly understand why it's my favourite.

Easily the best sushi in the Comox Valley, Sushi Kobo is delicious, consistent, has great prices, and is owned by the one of the nicest families on the planet! The menu is quite varied with both sushi staples and creative new dishes. The quality is always excellent, and one bite is enough for anyone to realize that the food here is a cut above any other sushi place in the Valley. May family and I have been coming here for over a decade. I have tried most items on the menu and have never been disappointed. They have a good selection of traditional Japanese items like natto (fermented bean paste) and saba (mackerel) and there are also tons of options for vegetarians or those who don’t like fish. Moreover, any time an item is unavailable, they always have great suggestions to offer, which has led me to finding some new favourites! Don’t bother getting sushi anywhere else. If you want sushi in the Comox Valley, Sushi Kobo should be your only stop!

Extraordinary. Best sushi I've had in Canada. Going from the humdrum mediocrity of prairie sushi to this? It was like a coming of age. A moment of revelation. An epiphany. Spectacular prices, too! I might add, they're not only takeout. You can dine in, but the restaurant is absolutely tiny. Best to dine in alone or in pairs, nothing more.

Sadly we didn't enjoy the food from Kobo. I was excited to eat sushi from a Japanese owned restaurant. The sashimi pieces were HUGE and over proportioned to rice underneath, the rice was dry, and the rolls were obscure. They included the salmon skin roll in their assorted sushi tray. That's kind of silly. I'm sure people enjoy that roll but that is the last thing I would put on an assorted tray considering it's basically a way of using their food scraps from grilling salmon and wouldn't be what someone would expect when ordering, again, an assorted sushi tray. I think they mean well and I wish I had felt better about my experience. I'm sorry for posting a mostly negative review but we really...
