"Definitely a date night destination!"
We have been dining at Blacktail countless times when we crave high-end dishes in Haida Gwaii. The pricing is reasonable, but the food you get is excellent in return. Not to mention, the staff is very accommodating and professional.
We have witnessed the changes it went through since it opened, adjusting to the pandemic norms, take-outs, and now finally back to having dine-in option. We respect the restaurant owners for the efforts made in the patio and keeping up with the mandates keeping patrons safe.
The modern and industrial style of the place gives it a cozy atmosphere where you can bring family, friends, and your partner. We like the featured art installations on the decors, highlighting the local artists of Haida Gwaii.
The bar is always stocked with new drinks created almost every time we visit. We ordered the bread and duck wings for appetizers and they sure whet the appetite.
Our mains were the pork and beef dishes, accompanied with excellent sauces and flavours. The desserts are heavenly, opting to get two different sweet treats. The s'mores is a must to try and share! Although we wish there would be more dessert options, as the two same desserts can be tiring (s'mores and pana cotta has been the options for months).

As the webpage says, " your trip to Queen Charlotte is not complete without going to Blacktail restaurant". I concur to this statement. The waitresses are super friendly and welcoming. They were so pleasant and cheerful. Drinks and food - I ordered a cucumber lemonade. I was a li'l skeptical about the drink but when I had my first sip, I realized it was so refreshing. I had to order one more because it was very tasty. The menu is very innovative. We ordered mussels, crispy potatoes, crispy cauliflower with Malaysian curry and bread with salmon butter. All the dishes we ordered were equally good that I could nt pick which one is my favourite. I am totally mind blown by the creativity and the innovation that has gone into making these dishes so appetizing. We were so stuffed by the end of the meal but we could nt stop ourselves from getting some desserts - a deconstructed s'mores and coconut pana cotta. Read moreWe really enjoyed our meal at the Blacktail. Coming off a four-day Zodiac exploration of Gwaii Haanas, we were eager to discuss our adventure over a nice dinner, and Blacktail did not disappoint.
It was lively and busy on a Friday night, but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Service was initially a bit slow, but after the first visit to our table everything smoothed out. The six of us started out with sourdough bread, mediterranean olives (warmed!) and garlic tiger prawns, and found all delicious. For mains we tried three menu items: the salmon, duck leg, and Angus steak and all were perfectly cooked, although we were a bit mystified why the excellent steak came with sizeable, and ultimately unappealing, dollop of butter on top.
