I'll start by saying that the decor and the view are lovely, but it hardly makes up for the borderline inedible food, my wife and I went in on a monday afternoon, we started with the bruscetta, which should have been some sort of warning sign on its own, but, it is hard enough to find a decent vegetarian place in Dartmouth, so we hoped that they could redeem themselves on the entree, I ordered the seitan sandwich, my wife got the lentil burger, both dishes were served on a dry, unseasoned flatbread, the seitan was heavily overdone, yet still cold, while everything else on the sandwich was bland and the veg was wilted and close to exipry my wife's meal was equally disappointing, poorly seasoned and with some very soggy veg, the roasted potatoes were burnt, yet cold and flavorless (poor use of a heatlamp) and, unfortunately several of them on both mine and my wife's plate were a little moldy tasting, we had taken a bite each of our food, and I asked the server for the bill, she did not ask if anything was wrong with the food, and we payed in full for the privilege to not eat here.($70 for two inedible sandwiches and some bad bruscetta) we ended up going across the street to a small irish pub, and got some very good veggie burgers there for a quarter...
Read moreUnderwhelmed. But I’d try it again in the future. The painted plywood tables were a bit of a surprise as I expected more b/c of the higher rating and reviews. The harbour view is super and perhaps was the best part of the visit. The “by the glass” wine menu seemed minimal. For two entrees, a glass of wine, a sangria and a dessert to share, $100 including tip would have been reasonable if the meal was a tad better. I wouldn’t normally order this but I had the special which was Strip Loin, risotto, and veggies. My daughter had the braised beef, fries, and veg. The portions were good. My steak was overcooked (should have been medium), tough, dry, and lacked anything memorable. I should have chosen seafood, my fault. The service was fine, pleasant, and attentive. The dessert was a simple vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies, which was fun and tasty! I’d choose other places for a while but I will return in time. Downtown Dartmouth has some real choices of late, and that’s exciting, so I do hope the Wooden Monkey steps up its game just a tad, I love the idea of a restaurant...
Read moreBeautiful setting in Dartmouth on the edge of the harbour. The food however was mediocre and disappointing. I had the fish and roasties. The breaded fish was bland with a thick, dry and tasteless coating. The roasties also were dry and bland with a not-nice mouth feel. The apple cider vinegar cole slaw had too much apple cider vinegar - that's all I could taste. My friends had pizza - they were both disappointed with the crust - not made in-house. This was explained on the menu but that shouldn't be an excuse for a less-than- adequate result. The server was nice however they forgot our starter; when the main was served after a rather long wait I asked about the starter. They explained they forgot it, apologized and offered to put the order in at the kitchen at that point - too late of course since we already had the main on the table. I understand people make mistakes but it was disappointing nonetheless. The chocolate brownie however was delicious and decadent! I like the WM’s business model and the Dartmouth location, but I’m not sure I will be in a...
