Honestly wish I could go lower than 1 star....
Went there with a friend for his 19th birthday to get his first drink. Bartender was very rude off the start for no reason, responding very passive aggresively to a question I had about drinks. He then asked for IDs since we look young and scanned both of our drivers licences then came back to take our orders. By this point he knew they were real IDs, that we were legal, and even that it was my friends birthday. He took our orders and came back with our drinks and put them in front of us but then told us our secondary IDs weren't valid, saying "school IDs wont cut it". Then said goodnight and pointed us to the door.
That same ID combo has worked at dozens of other much nicer establishments (liquor stores, clubs, bars, etc.) so I was a bit confused but thought he was just following a strict protocol. But he obviously was thinking of a reason to kick us out the whole time, since he DID take our orders and even placed the drinks right in front of us, which he wouldn't have done if checking to make sure the secondary ID being government issue was standard procedure.
To top it off, I looked it up after the fact and turns out a secondary ID doesn't have to be government issued like he said and the official BC government website even uses school IDs as an example of what is acceptable as a secondary (screenshots of official regulations shown below).
Overall just seemed like he wanted to kick us out from the moment we got there for no reason. Also completely ruined my friend's 19th birthday. This bartender was on a complete power trip and completely ruined the vibe for a birthday and I don't recommend it. You would think the bartenders are trained to handle these kinds of situations with integrity and respect but apparently not.
Also as an ethnic minority who grew up in Tsawwassen, I honestly can't think of a time where I experienced blatant racism towards me. I think Tsawwassen is good about that. But me and my friend both agreed immediately after leaving the bar that the bartender seemed to have a lot more hate toward me than my white friend for no obvious reason. Could be wrong but just something my friend and I both noticed.
If you are a tsawwassen local and are going out for drinks, I strongly recommend going to four winds beach house and brewery or ANYWHERE else than this place. I had my 19th there and the manager even came out and said happy birthday, instead of humiliating us then kicking us out for BS reasons. If you do find yourself going here, maybe bring crayons and a juice box for the bartender since I don't know how else to calm down an...
Read moreMy friend and I live in the area and wanted to support a local hotspot on a Wednesday night. We didn’t drive to the bar but took a cab and had a few drinks before arriving so we wanted to have a few beers and dinner. Everything was lovely and the ambiance was fantastic until we ordered another round of beverages, only to be told no by the bartender. Now, I would have completely been fine with being cut off if there was logical reasoning behind his actions. He didn’t explain anything in a reasonable professional manner.
We were not being blatantly disrespectful to the surrounding people in the bar and to ourselves.
We were not publicly intoxicated to the point of slurring our words and unable to form coherent conversations.
We were not physically unable to sit, stand and walk coherently.
Honestly, maybe the dude was having a tough time and needed to feel validated by the level of authority that his job has and for this sure fine. I just wished that he would of had an adult conversation like a professional that explained his reasoning. I will say that I tipped the bartender very generously and he had absolutely no problem taking my money or giving me a receipt or change for the cash that I gave him. I feel taken advantage of by a customer and was deeply disappointed in the customer service that I received. I definitely will not be returning and feel as if the bartender needs to have a conversation with the owner about being unprofessional and inappropriate in the work place. Also we were asked to leave and if our cab was on our way which was so odd. My friend whispered that we were being treated extremely poorly and I couldn’t agree more.
Lovely establishment. Terrible experience. Hope this guy gets some help for whatever he’s struggling with. Kinda obvious someone has a problem when they spitefully treat you like trash, says a lot about themselves.
Thanks...
Read moreThe Rose and Crown is a classic neighborhood pub that you won’t find in the city, so don’t be comparing it to any Yaletown or Gastown establishment, it’s a different kind of animal. You’re not going to find any show ponies here, no thoroughbreds, even though it stands on land once used to stable horses back in Tsawassens past. Nope this is working persons establishment, quarter horses, draft horses and mules need apply. Professional first rate service, a competent and well priced menu and a fair assortment of spirits. The kitchen serves up great specials as well as a solid English style breakfast complete with blood pudding red lead, and a fried slice. You know there’s value for the money when you walk in on a Thursday afternoon and the local retirees are all sitting down for one of the dinner specials. Wings night is a must and the patio, while a little bit on the noisy side is still a great spot to sit out and enjoy a beverage. Special shoutout to Ally and the bar staff and make sure to say hello to Annie, first rate server and someone who makes everyone feel at home....
