Went there while driving through town. Was super excited to have a fresh bakery to shop from instead of a grocery store. They had a nice setup in the store. Well spread out so you could actually browse. We purchased over 120 dollars worth of goods for ourselves and for our family and entertaining. The sourdough bread was good as well as the cookies (as per my spouse) and we ordered a donut each. I had the date squares and the cranberry lemon loaf a donut. Date squares had absolutly no taste and the texture was not that of any date square I have ever eaten before. I was notified after that they were vegan. I did not think there would be much of a diffrence. But there was 0 labels to have told me that when I grabbed them off the shelf. The cranberry lemon loaf looked amazing, however was not even fully cooked. It has an uncooked area inside that was still runny. So it kinda wreaked the rest of the loaf. unfortunately there was little to no flavor. I had froze the 20+ dollar pie so we will see when we eat that. But I am sure glad it was family that ate some first. I am glad I didn't serve it to guests. I have several other items that we had purchased as well. I am not even interested in cutting into them at this point. I hate leaving reviews for small buisnesses as I know how hard people have to work to have them keep going. But even the cashier was not wanting to be there. She said she used to work as ..... . And now she just works in a donut shop. The poor baker looked like she was ready to drop and the other lady working was very aggressive in her approach to the other customers. The breads and a few other things also unfortunately had no ingredents listed. So I had to hope that there were not ingredents that people couldn't eat.
We are not through that area often, so I won't likely be able to try it again to see if maybe it was just an off day.
I am not saying to never go there, just try one or 2 items first not buy bags and bags of stuff like we did. Hope others still enjoy their products and I do wish the buisness success for their future.
And as a side note, leaving a one star reciew for a small company can be devistating for them. Especially if it is because they are simply closed. They do need time off too for their lives and family, so take that into consideration when you are leaving a 1 star review for not having checked their hours ahead of time. That sounds like a you problem, that becomes a them problem from...

Read moreWe were lucky enough to make it up to their original Bala location to see and eat all the yummy baked goods ! We usually grab a huge order of everything when our sons’ hockey teams do fundraising , or if we’re lucky, grab some butter tarts from Food Basics. I have some friends & colleagues who are vegan and love that there are delicious choices for them as well !! Up here in Bala there are so many choices right in front of your eyes, and if you know you know you can’t help but buy one of everything !!!! They sell out daily on the regular, so you’d best be going to the store or at their weekly markets early in the day to get what you want. Their scones are overall our #1 family favourite (our kids love it for their school sandwiches) , then in a close 2nd tie are the butter tarts (dad & grandad’s choice) & apple fritters (dad & grandma’s choice )….don’t forget the cinnamon buns (kids choice)….or the herb bread when they have it (our great-grandmother’s favourite)…and then the sausage rolls and meat pies (OMG the pastry !) and the chala sesame buns, and my favourite - the sweet onion buns - those are game changers for your burgers !!! The owners are fantastic and take great pride in their baked goods. They truly value their customers and want them happy. ...
