I generally don’t write reviews for establishments below a 2 star but for such a large internationally recognized establishment - this was beyond disappointing. Marriot has upheld a standard of service, quality and attention to detail globally which was absent throughout my entire visit. I will try to be as detailed as possible while providing constructive feedback. I’ll start with the good, the actual setting, including the “atmosphere” and physical space (decor, display, cleanliness) were good as well as the drink that I had. There was a DJ present playing good music appropriate for the space.
The bad - everything else, including service and food, the most important items considering it’s a restaurant. I order two dishes, the first “Korean Short Ribs” which was mediocre at best. Flavor wise, a 6 out of 10, the flavor was actually decent on the short ribs in terms of seasoning but a bit overcooked and tough to chew. The platting and the actual dish was very difficult to eat and didn’t make any sense, I almost spilt the content of the tiny plate on several occasions. 4 large skewers on a tiny 3X10 inch plate with little to no room to move, easily spilling the food onto the table. The slaw might be one of the worst things I’ve tasted this year, granted the year just started. Not only was it lacking flavor, over powered by mayonnaise and oxidizing with an unpleasant fermentation flavor as if it’s days old or sat out of refrigeration. After the first bite of the slaw, I realized I’d rather not sacrifice my wellbeing.
My second dish, a grilled octopus with Santorini fava bean “mash” and giant capers, made absolutely no sense. I’m not sure if everything was intended to be served cold, but with lukewarm grilled octopus, nearly refrigerated and grainy “mash” it was not an enjoyable experience. The octopus was well cooked and tender, nothing else on the plate complimented each. The giant capers were just unpleasant and obviously salty, which didn’t make sense with the octopus already borderline over seasoned and high salt content of the “mash”.
Service - I’ve rarely experienced this level of inattentiveness and negligence at a globally recognized brand. Both of dishes came out without eating utensils, it took some waving to even get the bartenders attention. I wasn’t offered water or really anything besides the initial menu and being asked how the dish was, the first while eating the second nearly 10 minutes later. I almost had to beg for a second glass of water, pretty much ignored for 10-15 minutes at a time with a bar with maybe half a dozen people. Upon completing both disappointing dishes, I watched the dirty plates and glasses sit in clear view of the bartender for 10-15 minutes at time. To the point where I figured let me time stamp to see if it would take 15 minutes to clear a finished with a nearly empty bar, and it did for my second dish. Even after being critical of each dish, the first saying this is extremely hard to physically eat, he did sort of apologize. The second dish the octopus, I literally shook my head in disappointment and he just cleared the plate and walked away.
After being stuck for an extended period at the airport I was actually excited to know that Marriot has a restaurant and upon looking at the menu online, I was really excited to visit. Honestly would have been better to eat...
Read moreI work at the airport and had a craving for a proper breakfast - I saw that this restaurant offered one so I headed there shortly after it opened, around 0630H
I will never order the breakfast ever again.
The ''CLASSIC AMERICAN BREAKFAST'' either comes with 1 or 2 eggs - 1 egg is 19$, 2 eggs is 25$ (6 extra dollars for an extra EGG?)
Furthermore, you have the option to go for sausages OR bacon - not both, that's extra.
So I went with 2 eggs, chose the sausages, but asked for extra bacon - it cost me 34$ (with taxes)
Now, I understand it is a ''fancy'' restaurant - but the quality wasn't there either.
2 tiny eggs The sausages weren't complete portions The slices of fruits were absolutely thin and inadequately cut from their peel (so some loss of edible fruit flesh) The bread was super cheap bread that you can find at any dollar store - and not buttered! In terms of flavour, very bland too - the potato portion had no flavour
All in all,
The quantity is not reasonably proportional to the price The QUALITY is not at all reasonably proportional to the price
None of this meal is worth 34$ - and even if I didn't go with the extra bacon it was at least 27.49$ (if you go with 2 eggs) which is outrageously expensive - if at least it was satisfying or great tasting, I would've been a bit more ''okay'' with that price, but I really can NOT recommend this place for breakfast.
That said, the establishment was clean as always (although I did see a small mouse on my way to the restaurant, as it is in an airport) and the staff was friendly,...
Read moreEasy reservation process (Thank you, Ms. Emily & Ms. Flavia!) Warm welcome. Great service (Thank you, Mr. Vince). Excellent experience, beautiful views, delicious, and well presented food: We were welcomed with a basket of warm bread varieties (sour dough, and mini olive ciabatta with butter spheres) as we were informed of the locally produced beer. We tried the blonde "Matante" and the rouge beer. From the Table d'hôte, we ordered the creamy parmesan risotto with peices of Nordique shrimp and shallots. For the main course our party tried 1. the tender beef shoulder with naturally sweet roasted peppers, crunchy asparagus, and flavourful potato puree (see photo) ; 2. The grilled trout with quinoa salad; and 3. The creamy sea shell pasta with chorizo salad. The dessert was a divine surprise! A delectable frozen pistachio pâté over raspberry confit, chocolate & pistachio crumble, and fresh raspberries. A first time experience tasting such a dessert. I devoured it before thinking to photograph it--my only regret. It was such a delicious piece of art! It's got me planning my return to Bijou Restaurant at The Marriot YUL. And, parking is validated after you dine. Really...
