I've been here a few times the last few years with my most recent trip being a few days ago with family members for lunch before they had to fly home. Each time the food and service have been consistently good.
I had the pepper jelly bacon cheeseburger with a Caesar salad on the side. It was delicious. I was expecting something a little spicy but it actually ended up being more sweet with a jelly flavor that went very well with the bacon cheeseburger. I don't really like mayo or mustard so this is a very pleasant alternative. The salad seems very fresh as well.
One of my family members got the standard fish and chips and the other had the haddock tacos. Both meals seemed very well done and my family members seemed to enjoy them as there was really not much left on our plates by the end of the meal.
Though it was somewhat busy (understandable given the time of day) once we picked our seat on the patio (we did have a nice view) it did not take a long time for service to be provided. Our food was served within a reasonable time frame and the server made polite conversation with my family members which I know they really enjoy when out. There were even a couple of laughs had which shows my family was really enjoying themselves.
Though most of the inside restaurant and outside deck seems to be accessible (even if one had mobility issues) there is an elevated part of the patio towards the back that I'm not sure wheelchairs would be...
Read moreThis place has a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere, from the hilariously cheesy shark over the front door, to the carefully painted and distressed interior with lots of souvenir opportunities and books (great idea!) to the very extensive patio and really excellent views over the water of the passage and McNab’s Island. We went for an early-ish lunch on a warm Sunday. The service was faultless and friendly. We had a quiet table overlooking the water. We opted for the black bean burger at $18, which seems to be the only vegetarian option on the menu, and the fish and chips at $18.50. The chips were excellent. The fish was very good, as far as it went, which unfortunately wasn’t very far: a smallish piece of battered haddock, with really very good tartar sauce and a not-too-sweet coleslaw. If you’re not greedy or hungry or a vegetarian, it’s probably a great place to eat. We both came away feeling like we needed a little more food for the price, and the vegetarian would have appreciated more than just one option. The ladies’ washroom was off-putting. One stall had a paper notice on the door saying DO NOT USE, and the disabled one was backed up and unflushable. This needs urgent attention. I’m also going to mention the plastic basket and paper that the fish and chips were served in. Why can’t we have properly warmed ceramic plates? Nobody enjoys eating off...
Read moreRead moreThis is a big and very atmospheric restaurant. There is a spacious hall inside, as well as an equally spacious summer veranda with the view on the water. Nice thematic decoration. The waiters are friendly, the prices are adequate for such a place, but I would like a portions to be 1/3 more for such a price. I ordered and homemade cream soda, my wife took , and black tea. I can characterize our entire order as follows: quite tasty, but nothing special. In the sense that there are no complaints about the dishes, but I can’t praise them for anything either. I liked the taste of my fish but it was like slightly sweet with a glazed taste, and no "maple tones". And I read another person's review: He wrote that instead of seafood he tasted only potatoes. Well, potatoes really contribute to the overall taste to think in such a manner, but there was definitely seafood parts too. So, overall I would tell that this place will be 7 out from 10 for me. Normal, tasty, atmospheric, but I don't know if I would come here again. And it seemed strange to me that at such a time on a weekend there was no one here. In the hour that we spent here I saw only one other occupied table. However, I may not be correctly assessing the "busy period" for this part...
