The Hilltop Pub is permanently closed it seems. It was last open in early Dec 2022. It's sadly missed since it was a comfortable + friendly restaraunt and bar, and a neighborhood staple for many decades! Even recently, they had live music on Saturdays, and the place really hopped! Halloween was a real blast, and they often had an open mike on Sundays. It was a real part of the neighborhood! Too bad the last owner just didn't give a hoot.
There was a very small fire that occurred one evening during a rental, and the place just sort of petered out super rapidly after that was fixed, as far as I know. It did reopen after the fire, but only for a few weeks. No effort whatsoever was made to let people know it had reopened! Absolutely none!
It was pathetic the way we had this hub of activity torn from us. It's a tragedy in a way. A once thriving business was just allowed to die of starvation and neglect, and a real centre of life in the area was strangled by its owner!
It's too bad he just didn't care enough to keep the place going! He could have just hired a cook, a bartender/manager, and a part time accountant. It's not like he had to even show up! It's tragic how he allowed the place to close down. It ripped the heart out of our neighborhood!
It used to serve as a great lunch or coffee venue too, because it has 4 or 5 super cosy booths that seat 4 to 6 people each. But it looks really run down on the outside, because he never even bothered to use a weed whip around the large patio, or to paint the railings. Both of those jobs would have taken almost no time, and would have cost next to nothing.
But the owner just doesn't give a hoot, so it looks like a heck of a mess outside. So why did he even bother doing all kinds of stuff inside? And having all those big screen TVs installed? It was the neighborhood's hub, and without it we don't really have a neighborhood anymore.
I miss it so much! If only somebody else would buy it, before it goes all to heck indoors too!
I would hate to see it just crumble slowly, as it seems to be doing now! If the owner is trying too hard to gouge money from new buyers, he will end up with nothing. Bankrupt. And the neighbors will be the biggest losers once again.
When are you just going to let somebody else give it a try? And let us try to have a place to get together again?! A place where we can sing and dance together again, after all these years it's been vacant (which is actually more like 5 years or more since it first was shut down for no apparent reason at all.) We are all so VERY tired and sad from watching the place rot!
For krissake sell it NOW and let somebody bring some life back into this area! You have wrecked enough of the life here! Stop scrounging for a few more dollars and...
GET OUT, AND LET SOMEBODY BRING SOME LIFE...
Read moreI had been looking forward to meeting up with my friends from out of town who were playing here in a 4 band showcase. They were scheduled to go on at 10:30 as the third band of the night. Once they arrived, they were asked if they could go on last, to which they graciously obliged. When they finally got to start their set, they played for MAYBE 30 minutes. They were given no notice when they were told to shut down. Not a "Hey guys you got time for one more." Nothing. I watched the owner/manager walk up to sound guy, say a few words, then the sound guy walks up to the band and says ok that's it. Keep in mind that this band drove in from out of town, supplied the drum kit for the entire night, and allowed their set to be pushed back. After all that, it was their set was cut short?! Whoever is running this place obviously has no experience with bands. You do not favor the local bands or the cover bands. If you are an out of town band, or a band that plays originals, be forewarned.
I did however have one of the best steak sandwiches of my life. Tender, well seasoned and reasonably priced. It's unfortunate that due to the way these seasoned musicians were treated, I will not be stepping foot in this...
Read moreThey used to have fairly decent steak sandwiches with a plate full of fries for a decent price. I went in again for the same old order; steak sandwich, rare, gravy on the fries. Tbey had the piece of garlic bread but in two and spread across the plate in an attempt to bide their (new) tiny portion size. And when you get so few french fries with your order that it inspires you to count your french fries (12 of them), well, you end up feeling ripped off. And, to add insult, when I pointed out to the (so called) waitress that this was a ridiculously undersized order and that I've been cominh here the better part of 15 years, an apology might help, maybe some offer, or effort, to correct ths problem? Nope. "Oh!" was all she said. And walked away. Thanks Chantal! Sad to see the neighborhood pub going down hill. And its too bad, too. Been going here for steak sandwich for 15 years. Won't be going any...
