*UPDATE: I think the owner commented on my original review saying we were served gelato, not ice cream. I just contacted Little Bear Gelato and 'maple walnut' (the flavour I had) is not one of the 2 flavors of Little Bear's Gelato at La Tramway. We were offered ice cream, the cooler said 'ice cream' and it tasted like ice cream! It was not gelato! So, I was, infact, overcharged according to the owner's reply - we were served ice cream and charged for gelato. La Tramway is not properly representing Little Bear Gelato and they are over charging. I had also commented on the price of La Tramway's cheesecake and now I don't see it on their online menu....
I am genuinely curious how La Tramway is still open! Their prices are exorbitant! Seriously! Just peeking at their menu now - $16.99 for a slice of cheesecake? $19.99 for a sandwich? I was walking by with my 2 young children (plus a baby) at 5:00 pm (just before supper time) and was approached by one of the staff who popped out to see if we wanted ice cream. Of course my kids were all over it! I understand that I could have held a boundary and told them 'no', but I didn't have the energy to deal with the fallout. So I suppose the staff caught me at a weak moment and I figured it would be a nice treat. We go inside and each order one scoop in a bowl. I get to the till and it was $18!!!! For 3 scoops of ice cream! Non-artisanal ice cream! I asked to confirm that it was $6 per scoop and another staff member abruptly answered 'yes'! I reluctantly paid and we went outside to enjoy our overpriced scoops. Mine was freezer burnt. The kids' were ok. The longer I sat there, I just couldn't believe how much our ice cream cost and went back in to ask how much a double scoop cone/bowl would be, thinking that maybe they got it wrong. My question was met with defensiveness and the abrupt staff member told me that it was the same price. $6 for an additional scoop. So $12 for a two scoop ice cream cone! I told her how absurdly expensive that was and she got very snarky. The original staff member who lured me in offered me a croissant or a coffee, but I declined and told them that I just wanted them to know how expensive their ice cream was. Just to compare: a pint of ice cream at Kind is $12 and a pint of ice cream at Made by Marcus is $10. Seriously, I don't know of anywhere else that sells two scoops of ice cream for $12! Mediocre ice cream at that! And just to add, I did not appreciate being approached and offered ice cream in front of my kids, the defensiveness from the staff was a huge turn off, and the atmosphere in the establishment was cluttered, dark, and non-inviting. Save your money and go buy ice cream or sandwiches or cheesecake...

Read moreThis is a cozy welcoming cafe in the Strathearn neighbourhood on 91 Street just south of 95 Avenue. The food that I have ordered on my two visits here was superb and moderately priced. I tried the Grilled Salmon with Creamy Pesto Sauce served with Lemon Pepper Rice. The salmon was very tasty and cooked perfectly, something that is hard to find when dining out. The creamy pesto sauce was served on the side and was delicious both on the fish and on the perfectly cooked vegetables. My husband had the same dish the second time I visited, and they accommodated his allergy to dairy by cooking it with olive oil instead of the sauce. On my second visit, I ordered the Greek Salad, which is loaded with delicious greens, marinated olives, tomatoes, and other crisp veggies. I ordered it without the feta cheese. The sandwiches and breakfasts on the menu also look delicious and they have a counter with homemade baked items that was tempting. This would be a comfortable place to visit, either for a meal or a hot beverage and dessert. I would feel comfortable stopping in here either with friends or on my own with a good book. It has comfortable chairs and a cheerful, travel-themed atmosphere and has natural light from the street. There is ample street parking with no time limit, and some angle...
