Cute little cafe with delicious pastries.
We ordered the macarons, mini tiramisu, mini rose green tea macaron and mini lemon meringue tart.
Macarons - best ones I've ever had. They've got just that tad bit of crunch, along with a chewy taste in the centre. I feel that the fillings for these are more compared to the thin ones from different places. I like that the macarons doesn't feel so dry/flaky and hard either which is a nice change from other cafes.
Mini tiramisu - this one was alright. I do like that there was a creamy filled centre and the coffee taste is evident and was not overly strong. I think I prefer a slightly sweeter taste for this one. There wasn't much of a wow factor in general.
Mini lemon meringue tart - if you've ever tried anything like this before. You already know what to expect. I've always been a fan of lemon meringue and this one delivers. Its got a hard outer shell and the inside is filled with the lemon which isn't too tangy or too sweet. Nestled on top of that is the meringue, which is the perfect touch of sweetness for this tart.
Mini rose green tea macaron - imagine the macarons you've just had but better. This has the delicious fillings inside with mixed berries. The green tea isn't strong and you won't get much of that green tea taste. It was more of a creamy texture which still tasted good with everything. It was our favourite from what we tried that day.
I highly recommend giving this...
Read moreEDIT #2: Reinette recently contacted my family and apologized for our experience. They've asked that the family member who purchased the cake come back and will get a full refund. We're very satisfied with their customer service after-the-fact. I've edited my rating to reflect our more positive experience.
EDIT: I’ve added photos that a family member took. As you can see, the texture is SO off.
I have hesitated for several days before posting this, as I HATE posting negative reviews, but I felt this needed to be said;
We ordered a cake for a family member’s birthday this past weekend, and quite frankly it was the worst cake I have ever eaten. The cake was heavy, dense, rubbery and completely flavourless, aside from an odd bitter aftertaste that may have been from leavening or food colouring. I’d like to imagine that this was a one-off, and the horrible texture was due to an error in the baking process, however I can’t possibly imagine that any baker or business owner would look at this cake and be ok giving it to a client. I cannot emphasise enough how RUBBERY the cake was. No one was able to finish their piece, and the leftovers went into the garbage.
There were other issues we had in dealing with this business, which I won’t get into, but needless to say we will not be ordering a cake...
Read moreI've been here a few times. The atmosphere is lovely, and the inside of the cafe is surprisingly sunny.
The coffee and tea selection is excellent, especially if you're a bit of a tea or coffee snob (they do cold brews and have a manual espresso machine).
In terms of pastries, the madeleines are probably my favorite, and the onion and cheese scone too (I like savoury pastries for sure and I've worked in and managed various bakeries and cafés in my life so I know my pastries pretty well). The Cardinal seemed promising, but quinoa always seems to upset my stomach, so I hope they invent something similar a different, non-quinoa filling.
If you prefer sweet pastries, the macarons are good quality... Nothing mind blowing my opinion, but my girlfriend says they're the best she's ever had. Today I had the key lime tart... I would have liked it with just a touch more lime or lime zest and just a bit less sweetness, but I still enjoyed every bite of it. I'm looking forward to trying the apple cheesecake next time I'm in!
Definitely an unexpected spot for such a gem, but the prices are good, and it's close to my parents' house, so I try to stop in whenever I'm in the neighborhood or need to have a meeting in this...
