Quality authentique Japanese food. I’ve been waiting for them to open on 124 Street, my neighbourhood. Was so hoping they’d be good. They surpassed my expectations. I’m Japanese so pretty picky about my sashimi, sushi and tempura. They have an extensive sushi/sashimi menu, as well as other traditional appetizers, bowls and meals. We tried the tempura, Canadian style sushi and salad. Tempura batter was perfect - light and crispy, not at all greasy. Prawn was fresh and tender, not rubbery. Finally someone in Edmonton can make proper tempura!! We ordered the Wave Combo sushi (tempura yam, California and dynamite rolls). Wow! High quality nori and the generous fillings were delicious. More filling than rice. Under $30 and enough to feed all three of us sushi fanatics. Also had the salmon mango sushi. They must get their fish fresh from the coast. Amazing melt in your mouth salmon. Definitely need to go back and try the nigiri sushi and sashimi. My husband also ordered the Greens and Avocado salad. It was the best salad we’ve had in a restaurant in a long time. Dressing was so good he used my rice to sop up the extra dressing 🤣 Not so proper but delicious! This is a great choice for people who appreciate real Japanese food prepared and presented to standards in Japan. Nice atmosphere too. Super modern and clean but warm and welcoming with great jazz music in the background. We are definitely going back to try out other dishes! We may update this post. Welcome to the neighborhood, Sushi Wave. You are a quality addition to the restaurant scene on 124th. Keep your prices reasonable if you can. I have a feeling we will be eating at Sushi Wave often!
So we have been back several times now and have never been disappointed. Standouts are the Tataki Guy sushi roll (so unique and delicious) and the new Udon options. This udon is better than mine, and mine is great. I want their noodles. They also added Uni options (sea cucumber). Might be adventurous and try...
Read moreSushi Wave is another fantastic addition to my list of top sushi spots—and honestly, it might just be my new favorite. The food was so good. From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for an amazing dining experience. The vibes are great, and it’s the kind of place you immediately want to come back to.
We started with the assorted tempura, which was fried to perfection—light, crispy, and full of flavor without being overly greasy or heavy. Easily some of the best tempura I’ve had. The assorted sashimi was equally impressive. Every piece melted in your mouth and was cut to a generous size. Surprisingly, the tuna stole the show for me—even though I usually lean toward salmon. Both were excellent.
For rolls, we ordered the Dragon Roll and the Mango Paradise. The Dragon Roll had prawn tempura and imitation crab inside, topped with eel, avocado, tobiko, and unagi sauce. Absolutely incredible—the sauce really brought it all together. The Mango Paradise was another standout, with cucumber, prawn tempura, and crab inside, topped with mango and a special mango sauce. It was sweet but balanced, and not overpowering at all.
Overall, a 10/10 experience. The quality of the food matches the price, and I’ll definitely be returning—probably even later this week. If you love sushi, you need to eat here.
I came back!!! And it is still SO GOOD.
This time, I added the gyoza. solid and exactly what you'd expect. You really can’t mess that up. For rolls, I tried the OMG and Crispy Mango. Both were amazing. The OMG had a delicious smoky flavor, great texture, and generous portions. The Crispy Mango was cooked perfectly, and now I’m honestly torn between that and the Mango Paradise as my favorite.
This is a must-go place. I seriously can’t stress that enough. If you love sushi, you need to...
Read moreSushi Wave is place we discovered purely by accident and we're ecstatic we did! With our daughter having training practice nearby every week, we find ourselves on Friday nights sometimes looking for a place to eat (and pass time while we wait for practice to end). Being sushi enthusiasts, we did a Google search for near by sushi places and a number of places popped up and we decided to try this place out after seeing the great ratings it received.
Please note, this review is written after several months of visits (since Sept 2024) so feedback is based on a good sampling and repeated visits and the Google ratings are accurate, it not maybe even a bit low. The décor is very clean, friendly and has that wonderful neighbourhood vibe. I love the one wall photo near the door showing a Japanese alley. The restaurant isn’t overly large but the photo fits right into something you might find in Japan where you find these fantastic Japanese restaurants tucked away down a side alley. The staff are all friendly. I believe this is family run restaurant and Adam who’ve we had now several times has is always chatty, friendly and has great recommendations (if you’re not sure about something, ask him!) but all staff are wonderful.
The food is always consistent (consistently good 😊), beautifully presented, and creative. There were some food types we have traditionally stayed away from due to poor experiences at other establishments but with Adam’s assurances that it would be a good experience, we tried them and he was right. We now find ourselves ordering things we haven’t before and enjoying them immensely.
We leave each visit feeling like we’ve spent time with family with a full belly and a great eating experience. Definitely come to this restaurant if you are looking for Sushi and want to support a great...
