If you’re wondering how the whole experience felt, imagine going to eat dinner at Balenciaga in west ed.
Our visit to this “restaurant” was quite a letdown, and it all seemed to stem from some serious gaps in staff training and oversight.
It took a good 15 minutes before anyone came over to our table after we were seated, which immediately signaled some major issues with how things are run. In fact we had to flag someone down. The hostess was doing her best, juggling cleaning, seating guests, and directing the service staff, but it was clear she was stretched way too thin.
The service itself felt like something out of a slow-motion horror movie. Our server kicked things off by asking "are we done?"—not exactly the welcome you'd expect. Even with a digital order pad in hand, they fumbled our order.
Instead of the usual tray, our cocktails were handed to us directly by the bartender, which was odd. Watching our server try to manage just a few tables was painful; they kept missing simple requests and people had to flag them down just to get their bills. And we know this because the seating arrangement layout was so crammed it’s quite clear ownership is trying to milk the space at the exceptions of comfort.
At one point, a nearby table tried to order something and had a question about allergies, and all they got was a "we can't guarantee there won’t be cross contamination” and a shrug from our server.
Meanwhile, we noticed several kitchen staff wandering around without hairnets or hats, just adding to the unprofessional vibe.
The food was no better. Our burrata was served ice cold when it should be at room temperature, and our plates were dirty. Nobody from the staff bothered to check on us and do a table touch, or they would’ve noticed. When our food finally arrived, our table wasn't cleared, and our server awkwardly tried to serve new dishes while still holding onto our old plates.
Look mistakes happen. But constant and preventable ones are inexcusable.
Though there were a few staff members hustling, most seemed to just be milling about at a painfully slow level of urgency.
The main dishes were just as disappointing—overcooked pasta that was bland and somehow still managed to be too rich, without any balance. Also so overcooked it fell apart when you tried to twirl it in the spoon provided. That specific detail shows they understand pasta, not so much the cooking of it.
It's clear this place has a lot of work to do on its food and service, no matter how many other businesses they branch out into under the same roof. Oh, and the plastic flowers were a nice touch—but hardly enough to make up for everything else.
We only ended up here because of a gift certificate, and honestly, they really need to step up their game if they want people...
Read moreYou guys….I love this place, ate here many times, food was always great and service was always welcoming but this time…. I don’t wanna screw your google rate and your food was awesome this time as well, that’s why I’m not giving you 1star but this time’s service was very disappointing, I literally left annoyed. Here’s some context. I gave a call around 9am to make a reso for 11am and specifically asked for a dome. After I got a confirmation message I noticed my reso was made for 9:30am so I called back to adjust and asked again will they be able to sit me at a dome, which was confirmed. When I got there I’ve been told that there was no specification in my reso about seat preference so they sat me not even in their main dining room but in bakery side. The lady who sat me said if anyone leave soon they can move me so they will keep me updated. The table I’ve been given was rocking so I asked my server to put something underneath, also I need to clarify that the table was right in the front door hallway and they decided to keep that door open so I didn’t feel comfortable at all. When the server took my order and asked me about a drink I said that my choice is depending on if I’ll be moving or not (I was about to get hot or cold beverage), so let’s just ring my food in and I let you know about beverage later. After being super uncomfortable I asked to move me at least somewhere in the dinning room and they did, right in front of balcony door which was closed so I thought I’ll be alright…spoiler no. The girl (probably a host) decided that it’s a great time to went outside to her colleagues and keep doors open right behind me, I freaked out a little and asked her to close the door. I got my food as I said it was great as always and I said I’ll get a hot matcha, long story short I had to go to the bar and asked them to make it to go because I already finished my meal and I don’t wanna spend another minute there. Nobody ever checked on me after I got my food, next time I saw my server was when she ran my drink confused why it’s in a to go cup. No offense but I didn’t left any tip, I decided I’ll better finish my drink in the car. I’m not asking for anything for free or something but after all of that it would be nice to cover my drink or something 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not saying I will never come back but probably I better order...
Read moreIf you're in downtown Edmonton and looking for a fantastic breakfast , brunch spot, I highly recommend checking out Tiramisu Bistro.
Please read further below for the updated review! (This means I've been back at least 3x)
Tiramisu Bistro is a charming and cozy cafe located in the heart of the city. Their breakfast menu is filled with mouth-watering options, from classic dishes to more unique items like their (as pictured) Grilled Veggie Sandwich.. (portabella mushroom, zucchini, bell pepper & onion + mozzarella) and their Wild Forest Mushroom Chicken Pasta (Grilled chicken, wild forest mushroom, garlic + cream sauce) . They also offer a variety of coffee drinks, and other breakfast beverages to complement your meal.
UPDATE: 3.7 / 5 - Just had their Gorgonzola Pizza, and also their Ricotta Appetizer and between the 2, the Appetizer was much more delicious. The pizza needed some balance as the cheese is quite overwhelming. The Bison was out so we were left to try on the Ravioli which the pasta was heavy and thick so it was okay. It's tough but it went down .3 stars for me only because apparently it had been out for awhile however the server didn't know it and returned a bit later to tell us.
Parking is a little harder to find only because of how popular this place is.. and it's close to residential area so just be aware, in between the line up at times and availability of parking -I'll have to include those in the review.. Of course you want to go to a place that's busy (as a testament to their food) but same time the inconvenience of finding a spot will make or break it.. there's plenty other restaurants in the area and you might opt out of this place if you can't find any place to park.
Now, the staff. What sets Tiramisu Bistro apart is Their dishes are always fresh and bursting with flavor. Plus, their friendly and attentive staff create a welcoming atmosphere that is perfect for a morning meal.
Next, Their pastries are pretty tasty and very much recommend it. Try any one and to be honest, they're all great but I like their cakes and their cinnamon bun.
Anyway, Whether you're looking for a nice breakfast on-the-go or a leisurely brunch with friends, Tiramisu Bistro is the...
