This weekend I had the absolute pleasure of eating at woodshed burgers on 124th Street 107 Avenue. Upon arriving I was happily greeted at the door and given a smile. The atmosphere while rustic was very clean and displayed a lot of artwork and proprietary products ready for sale all arranged in a pleasing manner. Was very surprised that they are also a licensed establishment, to have the choice of having a drink with your meal is nice. All the staff seemed very friendly and once we let them know this is our first time they actually walked us through the menu and let us know about a special they had on that day. We decided to go with a special with two juicy Lucy burgers loaded with a bucket of poutine and a caramel shake and the top it all off a homemade baked cheesecake. Our order was brought to us promptly and looked very appetizing, our shake was creamy, very flavorful and now is probably one of our favorite. The burgers were simply amazing, thick cut bacon, melted cheese, fresh toppings and believe it or not served with homemade mayonnaise and homemade ketchup served on a fresh homemade buns sourced just for the restaurant, kudos for that!!!! The burger was absolutely delicious as they are made with fresh ground beef done on the premises and smashed and the patties were rendered perfectly. I have never had a burger hit me with so many flavors at once and they all hit home.
The poutine was simply amazing as it was done with fresh cut fries and homemade gluten-free gravy with a generous amount of courage cheese layered from top to bottom which is simply unheard of in any other restaurant I've been to. This has been the only poutine that right down to the bottom I still had gravy and lots of cheese hats off for this as it is the best tasting poutine I have ever had all across Canada.
To finish everything all off we had the baked cheesecake which you could tell was done to perfection. The cheesecake was moist yet firm and very flavorful, the crust followed the cheesecake right up the side and was very tasty and was topped with fresh fruit and drizzle and I believe the only way this cake could be made better is with a butterscotch ripple ice cream but besides that it was a great way to finish off our meal.
From the outside you would never expect this place to offer such an experience to a customer but it's true, they make the experience well worth the drive for us from the North end to their store. From the time we got there until the time we left we felt welcomed and knew that they cared about their customers and their image as you could see the pride and everything they served us and the professionalism from our servers to the kitchen staff was top notch. The price point of the food is on par with the services that they offer and I highly recommend woodshed burgers to anyone who has not had the pleasure of visiting them to go try them out. Great job guys and don't change because that is what makes you unique. I can't wait to come back down and try out other items on your menu.
I give this a rating of 9.3 out of 10 on the munch meter. A...
Read moreI recently visited Woodshed Burgers and ordered one of their feature burgers, a brisket beef sauce kinda burger, along with a side of onion rings. Let me tell you—10 out of 10! I 100% recommend this place and will absolutely be returning.
The atmosphere is great, the service is incredibly fast, and the food came out hot and fresh. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The restaurant itself was very clean, adding to the welcoming vibe.
The brisket burger was phenomenal, packed with flavor and made with 100% all-beef, locally sourced ingredients. The bun, from a local bakery, was absolutely fantastic. The portions were generous and more than filling. The onion rings were clearly homemade, crispy, and paired with an amazing dipping sauce that I couldn’t get enough of.
I have to say, I’m sad I didn’t take any pictures because the presentation of the food was amazing. Everything looked just as good as it tasted!
One minor downside, if you can even call it that, is the price. For two people, it was around $50, and we only had water, no drinks. But honestly, the quality of the food and the experience makes it worth every penny. This is the kind of place where, when you want a burger, you immediately think of Woodshed.
Parking at the front can be a bit tricky, but that’s hardly an issue compared to how incredible everything else was. I left feeling full, satisfied, and happy. Everyone needs to try this place—more than once!
Edit. I returned. Still 5 star. Ordered bison bacon swiss and smurf. I'm telling you. If you haven't eaten here. You NEED to. I also got the poutine. Like 2.5 star on that. I didn't like the gravy. But...
Read moreThe art on the walls was really cool. Especially given their recent history with McDonald's. They even have their cease and desist framed, which is super funny!
But overall I found my food to be super average. The bun, burger, and toppings were all good, but felt expensive. No individual part of it "wowed" me in any way. One of us had the blue cheese burger, and couldn't taste the cheese at all. Someone else had the fish sandwich, and there's looked better than the actual burgers. The buns are probably the best part? I think they are trying to let the "nonay" beef shine, but it just made for pretty bland burgers. The fries were totally average, and despite having "Woodshed" ketchup and mustard on the tables, it was indistinguishable from Heinz. They did have malt vinegar on the tables though, which I liked! The onion rings were like 90% batter (very good batter!) which I personally like, but nobody else did because it wasn't "oniony enough". So that a personal preference thing. The shakes were also excellent! Be sure to try the cappuccino one!
But overall, the combination of great shakes, good onions rings, average burgers, average fries, and a pricey meal left me feeling pretty underwhelmed.
EDIT: I actually gave it another try, and got the colonel chicken burger instead. Amazing, non greasy fried chicken, sweet pickles, and a tasty spice! This place should be hyping up that he...
