I’m really disappointed to be writing this review, when our first visit here was so fantastic.
This was our second visit. The first visit was incredible. Between the food and the service - everything was a 10/10. The second visit was very different. At this point I don’t know if we will return, let alone recommend Wok N Roll.
I will start off with saying the food is always good. The price is a bit on the high end, but the quality is always there. We are more than happy to pay extra for the quality Wok n Roll provides.
The service this last time is what made it so we are not sure if we are going to return. It started off with ordering the food. We had ordered our food with Wor Wonton soup to start. We emphasized a few times that we wanted our soup first - otherwise the food would sit in the table and go cold before we finished the soup. Hot food hot! So we get the soup and as they are putting the soup on the table, they are already bringing our food out. We reiterated to the server that we wanted to start with soup before the rest of our order came out, now the food was going to get cold. Our server just smiled and walked away.
Our server very kindly poured our first bowl of soup each. I went to add a bit of soy sauce. When I went to add soy sauce, I picked it up by the top, not realizing that someone had unscrewed the top, and subsequently it fell on the table and all over my shorts, legs, feet, and sandals. After a few minutes, our server came over, said nothing, and dropped a small stack of napkins on the table, and left. The Manager (I think?) came over - dropped a couple pieces of paper towel on the ground - stepped on it a few times and said “be careful not to slip when you are leaving.” At this point I’m a bit shocked. I’ve gotten better customer service at McDonalds. I can’t imagine being a server and having no reaction to a customer getting covered in a mess like that. When I asked our server for a wet rag or towel to clean myself up - she politely told me to go use the bathroom. From this point on we didn’t see our sever till just before we left.
When our food was all brought out, I noticed they missed one of the items. I kept trying to flag our server down - but she literally didn’t come back. I waved a gentleman down and luckily he went into the back for us, and after a few minutes brought us out some incredible sweet and sour pork. As I said. The food here is always amazing.
We didn’t get a refill of water till we were already done our food. We were never asked at all if we wanted more hot water for our tea.
In the end they never said anything about the incident with the soy sauce. There was a gross pile of paper towel and soy on the floor my entire meal. My shorts had a huge stain on them. The food was great. We wouldn’t have wanted a discount. I would have been so happy to receive the BARE MINIMUM of ‘hey we are sorry that happened.’ I honestly have no idea why they treated us like that. It honestly made me feel incredibly unwelcome. I gave the atmosphere a low rating for having to sit next to pile of paper towel and soy sauce on the floor.
I used to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for top tier Chinese cuisine. Again, the food is great - but how can you recommend a place that treats their customers like that?
One thing that was incredibly hard not to notice is that the server seemed to treat some customers better than others. I’m not going to go into specifics comparing which people were getting better service than others - but it was glaringly obvious.
We saw a lot of people not dining in and getting to-go orders. Maybe that’s the smart way to enjoy the good food and avoid...
Read moreStay away - rip-off and poor customer service. My husband, my 4 year old and myself came here for breakfast/dim sum. We’d ordered about 9 dishes, 2 for $7.45 and the rest $8-$13 and $3.25 for an orange juice. It’s on the more pricier side for the same dishes to other comparable dim sum restaurants - $93.29 in total. With this place being closer to our home, we were okay with paying the heftier price. The food was average at best, nothing special to write home about but we had quite a bit of leftovers so I’d asked for 2 takeout containers and the waitress says I’d need 3 instead. Everyone around us were also taking their leftovers home in the typical foam containers they give you but our waitress came to our table with plastic containers and a plastic bag. She then proceeded to tell us that her manager told her to give us these plastic containers and that if we packed our food with it then we’d have to pay $0.15 per container. I said “oh, can we just grab the foam containers instead, we don’t need the plastic ones,” to which she quietly replied “I don’t know, that’s what her manager told her to do and if we wanted containers we’d have to pay and no foam ones but if we don’t want to pay then I can just put it in the plastic bag instead.” Sure, that’d be great if I didn’t have congee and rice rolls with sauce all over it, and I pointed to other people around us are packing their food up in free foam containers. So I told her no, I did not want to pay for the containers and I’ll just be using the bag. I said to her “I’m sorry but that’s just makes me so angry.” I wouldn’t have been so upset if that was the deal for everyone but for some reason it was just us. It’s not like we were rude to them, we said thank you for every dish brought to us and sticking to ourselves while eating. Needless to say we’re very disappointed and we will now drive further for better food and better service. I will never be back to this place and it’s terrible...
Read moreGreat restaurant in the north side, this is favorite place to go when I don't feel like going to Chinatown! Had the very popular Peking Duck made into three dishes. The first dish is made into an appetizer where the crispy skin of the duck is thinly sliced and used as a filling for a thin crepe wrap filled with thinly sliced carrots, cucumbers, green onion and yummy hoisin sauce. The first bite is so delicious! You usually get 10 crepe wraps for this dish. The second dish from the duck is using the carcass of the duck to make a flavourful soup with tofu and vegetables. This is like having a bowl of comfort food, it just warms up your tummy with flavor. The third dish we chose to have the duck meat fried with diced vegetables and made into lettuce wraps. You take a lettuce leaf, add a few spoon full of the duck mixture, a little bit of hoisin sauce and wrap it into a little bundle and take a big bite! So delicious! This place has dim sum in the morning and afternoons every day. In the evening they have a great dinner menu, good size portions and reasonably priced. I usually come here once or twice a month. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful when asking for...
