A 4.9 average from hundreds of reviews is hard to achieve. And it drew a more critical eye. Is it deserved? Looking more closely than usual, there were a couple of nits: cashier mixed up the drink order (no Americano please) but this was quickly resolved, milk foam did have some large-ish bubbles (see picture) and the chocolate croissant / pain au chocolate was only average. That said, the large latte was delicious. Remarkably so. Espresso was thus beautifully dialed in given the amount of milk. The space / location is fantastic. Love the branded table legs and the feature big-leaf maple live edge group table. Little touches like power outlets at the booth tables are appreciated. I entered from the laneway side, and it almost seemed closed. And even possibly low budget with the hours crayons onto the window. Entering, though, exposed a beautiful space. The other side is majestic, opening onto a lovely courtyard with a HUGE accordion doorway. Talk about inviting. You just want to find an excuse to put off the days business and hang out here all day long.

Some of the best coffee around! My Americano was one of the best I’ve had in town and my friend very much enjoyed her iced Mocha. However. I’ll be honest - I was surprised to have been charged a “to go” cup fee of $0.30 per item. Plus, a $0.50 “iced” fee. Obviously it’s not a huge margin and something that perhaps helps keep menu pricing lower, but my suggestion would be to have it visually clear and/or ask the staff to give a heads up to the customer before charging. Frankly, it comes off as slightly deceitful, which I’m sure isn’t the intention here. I more than understand operating costs being factored into menu pricing, but understandably it caught me off guard to have been charged extra without my knowing until viewing the receipts. Would much prefer to tip higher next time than be surprised with a to-go and iced fee - my small input to an obviously lovely establishment and the only thing stopping me from an obvious 5 star review! Definitely recommending to friends!

Great atmosphere and coffee, horribly inconsistent baristas. Second time visiting and our latte were spilled all over the plate, cleaned up with a dirty rag to wipe the counter, and when asked to have them remade the barista said it's just coffee on the rag... On-top of that an under extracted shot and horrible frothed milk. Hopefully baristas can get some better training on the machine and customer service.

I hate to give a bad review but the 2 mistakes made with my order today were pretty frustrating:

First we ordered one of our lattes half sweet and my friend said her half sweet latte was way too sweet! I noticed the bottles had spouts instead of pumps, it might be good to switch to pumps just to regulate how much you’re putting in each drink.

Second we ordered one regular and one veggie breakfast sandwich. We said it twice and the girl verbally confirmed with us. We left to catch the ferry and my VEGETARIAN friend unfortunately ended up eating bacon. We were given two breakfast sandwiches with bacon lmfao. This in itself is not a biggest deal but what if she didn’t eat pork?? What if she was Muslim? We looked at both sandwiches obviously but my friend’s one did not look like it had bacon in it until a few bites in.

I also think maybe the issue was our order was kind of taken by 3 different people so perhaps it’s a communication thing!

I just think that there are very easy ways to ensure mistakes like this don’t happen (marking take away bags or making the two sandwiches more distinguishable) and it upset me that these very preventable errors happened anyways. I’m giving 4 stars because I know how important reviews are to businesses but I certainly was not stoked on my experience :(

I do think that the inside was really nice and the last time I came to town I had a...

I've been going to this coffee shop for a while, I often stop by to get coffee and food and also purchase coffee beans for home once a week. For the most part staff are friendly but I have to say this isn't alway consistent. My most recent experience unfortunately has put me off returning at all. The staff member who served me my coffee was lovely but there was another member of staff who gave me real attitude as soon as I walked in and I couldn't work out why, I said hello and smiled and they gave nothing back. It seems I used an entrance door that they are not using anymore and they had a problem with that, I had previously always used this door to enter in the summer. I wasn't aware of another door. As I was leaving after collecting my order, the same staff member with attitude shouted across the cafe to me " can you use the other door" in a really rude manner! No explanation, no polite way of informing me (which I wouldn't have minded), it left me feeling pretty stupid and annoyed that someone would think this is an acceptable way to talk to someone. I work in customer service myself and know I would never speak to anyone like that, I also understand the importance of good customer service! If using that door is a problem please put a sign to direct customers to the...

I live in Esquimalt, and I'm currently in search of the best hot chocolate and work-space cafe in and around Victoria. Hot chocolate = 3/5, WAY too sweet, but despite this, I still get it, and I even add their signature Pistachio flavoring (this probably bumps up the sweet factor even more, but it's worth it). I'll get it if I haven't had anything else sweet in the day. Something not sweet or caffeinated that they make really well is their Turmeric latte (spiced golden milk). Atmosphere = 7/5, great vibes, LOADS of plugs everywhere, free wifi, best place to get some major computer work done. In the heat of summer the whole half of the cafe opens out into the square, which is lovely. They are also right next to the local library, which I suggest you check out as well. Options = Rarely any gluten free options, but it does happen occasionally!

Edit: this coming in a couple of years later, still no gluten free options, and the past two times I've come they've gotten a total of 3 out of 3 orders wrong. They always fix the drink, but this last one was bad, as I have problems with caffeine and they made me a regular instead of decaf latte, I was lucky I tasted the difference in two sips.... But this could be potentially dangerous for a...
