Copper Taphouse & Grill — Restaurant in Fort Frances

Visited with my husband and a friend - friend had wings and loved them, hubby had a "philly-steak" kind of sandwhich which he enjoyed. I ordered a queen-size Prime rib steak & Yorkshire pudding with garden salad as the side...the steak and the salad were brought on individual dishes - with the explanation that the cook wanted to keep the salad cold and the steak hot - unfortunately the steak was little better than room temperature - so guessing they had to wait for the Yorkshire pudding to cook....as it was hot, although not sure if it was actually hot or if it was just the gravy that it was filled with. The salad was done with a spring mix of lettuce which was very bitter, & the house dressing was the same brown color of the gravy & au jus served with the steak - but wasn't much better than a very strong vinagrette. I ended up not eating more than a bite or 2 of the salad, and less than 1/4 of the steak - when asked what was wrong, the waitress apologized - and gave me a 50% off discount as she wasn't able to arbitrarily take it off the bill. It was a two day event...Octoberfest.. I went Saturday evening and there was literally no one there. They don't have a large, diverse selection of beer so I certainly wouldn't call them a taphouse! We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese...the pretzel came and it was doused with oil...literally swimming in it (apparently someone thought that's what you do with a pretzel before you heat it!). The beer mustard cheese had the consistency of thick grainy cream cheese....not melted gooey piping hot melted cheese like it was supposed to have. The 2 piece "band" they had might have been okay to listen to had they not believed that if they were over the top loud it would make them better...particularly when playing to an empty house. Overall, a very disappointing visit and would not go back again.. .for either a special event or an evening...

It was a hit and miss...out of three orders, two were well prepared, the third not so much. The forth star is for the waitress. The disappointing part was, at the prices asked for at the Copper you'd expect a bit more care when dishes are served. The wait staff was very attentive and even discounted a portion of the bill, good recovery. Over all it was a decent experience but I'm not sure...
