Narula's — Restaurant in Fredericton

Yesterday I stumbled into this delightful hidden gem because I forgot to pack lunch and for once my absent-mindedness served me well. Narula’s serves seriously good food. It’s standard to praise ethnic restaurants for their ‘authenticity’ and this certainly applies here too. But Narula’s food stands out for the care that must be part of its making. The sauces burst with flavour, aroma and texture and the breads enchant with their freshness, perfect layers and just the right softness.

The prices are fair, the portions good and the owners are cordial. Today I didn’t forget my lunch. I just refused to pack it. I wanted to find out if yesterday was an accident, a trick of the mind. I had Chole and I enjoyed every bite. Today I ordered Rajma Masala thinking maybe it would be a variation of yesterday’s Chole. My husband and I stopped in to try Narula's Indian food for the first time today . . . and it did not disappoint! We each had the vegetable Thali, a great way to try 3 main dishes along with rice, naan, raita and dessert (gulab jamun)! It was all very good, but my favourite was the mixed vegetable main dish, and the gulab jamun! We sat outside on the picnic table and could see where an outdoor patio is being built. Narula's is a clean, well-lighted place serving vegetarian and vegan Indian and Pakistani food, along with some other options. Today I had the Saturday Special, which was Manchurian Fried Rice, described as "an Indo-Chinese dish made with deep-fried vegetarian balls served in a gravy sauce... with chopped vegetables." Very delicious. I would definitely order food here again. Narula's is also a convenience store with staples like rice, beans, lentils, chickpeas, spices, sauces, baking supplies, drinks, and more.
