As soon as you open the door, there will be a old man with a white moustache greeting you. This man used to be the former owner of the retaurenmt, which is now run by his kids. He is a very friendly person.
Then you are sitting and got the menu in your hands, you will notice that you have a fairly good choice of 2 main plate : "Raclette" or "Fondue".
I went there maybe 3 or 4 times. I always chosen the "raclette". And I can tell you that it's really good. Next time I will try the other one.
Last time I chosen the mix-meat, which is really delicious.
As for the service, it really depends on the waiter/waiteress. My last visit was a mess, because he used to forgot everything. I asked him for extra-cheese, he forgot to bring me the cheese. I asked him for a pot of ice to put my bottle of wine, he forgot twice. I asked him for a coffee and arrive really late with it. He even forgot the potatoes, which we rhave realised during the middle of the dinner
If the retaurent would have been full, it would have been different, I could udnerstand more, but it was not.
As for the meat, it's really fresh, nothing to complaints. As for the side plate (vegetables, cheese), the amount is really small. If you don't ,manage your portions very well, you will lack of cheese, or vegetables, and extra is around 5,95$, which is a fair amount. I wouid have expected more, since the menu have price going from $22 to $33 or so.
Overall it's a good place, and the only one in Gatineau for it's genre. You can give it a try. It was not the first time for me and it's usually...
Read moreI want to score this higher, but after having Chinese hotpot back home, that doesn't sound fair. We saw this advertised in the Ottawa tourist map and decided to try it.
Sunday, walked in right after 5:00. The staff switched to English and a translated menu for us and were very pleasant to deal with. We had the Parmesan appetizer, beef broth fondue and chocolate fondue for dessert. Additionally, a local beer and a cocktail.
The food was good, but in my opinion not stand out or worth the high price. For the same amount of money we could have gotten all-you-can-eat Chinese hotpot (essentially the same thing) in Mississauga or Markham. We also spent two hours there to eat three dishes and still could've eaten more, but...two hours. I'm not used to service being that slow and wonder how the prep side is.
On a side note, a couple was seated after us, but after hearing me talk (quietly) to my husband in English, they moved away immediately. It doesn't bother me now, but as someone who's lived her life in multilingual locales, this surprised me.
I am still interested in raclette, which is probably their specialty, so if we decide to come back I'll want...
Read moreWhat an experience! We went on a Saturday, and much to our suprise, it was nearly at Max capacity close to opening time for dinner. So make reservations if you can! There are daily specials that you may want to inquire about if you are taking a big group of people with particular tastes.
We had the cheese fondue with a side of broccoli, mushrooms, apple and grapes with a generous portion of bread, with the beef and veggies raclette to share between the two of us. Definitely recommend getting extra mushrooms and onions if you like them.
The Swiss decor, staff costumes and excellent service and fresh ingredients made this one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. We were lucky to have Joey, an enthusiastic and very helpful server and be greeted and given a farewell by the man in the white mustache who is all over the menu and posters.
The only con is, it can get pricey. I recommend going the day your favorite dining options are on special so you can take advantage of the deals. Fun experience. Definitely recommend if you go...
