I was so excited that Keswick finally had an Indian restaurant! I suggested to my friends that we try it. Caveat: I love Indian food and try every Indian restaurant I can. I ordered the chicken korma with rice and naan and samosas. The samosas were amazing, loved them. They were much larger than I expected and one would have been enough. The service was very slow - you're expected to pay and tip in advance. I didn't tip - I wanted to feel I was tipping for either service or food. The prices were a bit high, everything has to be ordered separately - at dinnertime, nothing comes with rice or Naan. The restaurant was very, very warm, actually it was hot. The korma didn't have cashews or even cashew powder that I've come to expect, but more importantly, it lacked flavour and was very bland and I kept thinking I waited almost an hour for this. They did keep checking to ask what I'd ordered. The rice was lightly flavoured with peas, and the Naan bread was very nice albeit a bit bland. When I expressed my concerns, the chef said he knew how to cook korma because he's a chef. I'm not a chef, but I've eaten Indian food all around the GTA and even in BC and at the homes of my Indian friends. I used the Naan bread to taste the sauce of my friend's butter chicken and it was rich and creamy and tomato-y, but a bit milder than I'm used to.
If you don't like spicy food or curry in particular, or if you're new to Indian food, this restaurant is a great introduction. If you're a fan of Indian food and like a bit of spice in your life, be sure to ask them to spice it up for you. It's a bit on the pricey side for what looks like a fast food restaurant - order and pay at the counter and then sit and wait and wait and wait.
I don't recommend the korma (I'm actually going to make it for my friends to taste) but did I mention the samosas are amazing? I might go back at some point in the future. Maybe after a few months things...
Read moreBack when I used to work in this plaza years ago I used to get the lunch special which was great value and tasted delicious. The best part was that you got a small portion of several different items so it was a good experience for your taste buds. Now I no longer work in this plaza, so I just order dinner from here and I'm equally as impressed and satisfied. The meal for two is great value for the amount of food you get and is more than enough for two people, we usually have leftovers for 1-2 days. Everything I've tried has been delicious and filling and satisfying.
If you've never had Indian food before I'd recommend butter chicken or chicken tikka masala, they're both quite mild and widely appreciated. For the vegetarians I would HIGHLY recommend the dal makhani, my all time favourite dish. The veg pakora (I like to tell people this is a savoury veggie timbit) is a light, delicious appetizer, and the samosas are so delightfully crispy the crust almost reminds me of a pastry. I could go on about the food for longer but I won't.
Instead I'll say that the service I've received in person and over the phone has always been fantastic and friendly, I feel good walking in and seeing a familiar, smiling face. Lastly, the atmosphere may not be for everyone, but it feels like home to me. I've been in this town my entire life. This restaurant used to be a pizza + pasta restaurant called Cravings and I like how when I walk in I can still remember how the restaurant used to look, and feel that the soul of deliciousness continues to bless this hallowed ground.
Thank you Bombay Boys, I love you guys and I...
Read moreMy family moved to the area recently and we decided to try some Indian food so we found this restaurant online and figured we would try it.
The young man who answered the phone was very professional and answered my questions about cilantro due to an aversion in the family (they do not use cilantro in their food!).
Upon arriving at the plaza the restaurant was easy to find and the parking lot was large enough where on a busy day finding a spot should be easy enough.
Inside the restaurant I was greeted in a friendly manner by the owner and co. My order was ready in the time that was estimated and I picked up some of their house made mango chutney as well (delicious by the way!!!).
We ordered a plain rice pualo which is essentially biryani (there are different pualo on the menu so you need to specify a plain one for biryani!) As well as chicken saag, beef korma, some Naan and the chicken pakoras.
All of the food that we ordered was delicious! Their curry was rich and flavorful but not very oily at all (especially compared to some places around where I live in Mississauga who seem to use a lakes worth of oil). As well, the Naan was not greasy and well cooked and the pakoras were very tasty.
Overall our experience with this restaurant was excellent and we will be ordering from here again! Hidden gem in Keswick for sure.
PS: I wish I had pictures of the food to do this review justice but I forgot to...
