I've been buying Dairy Queen cakes my entire life, from multiple locations in the GTA. I have bought so many cakes that I couldn't even keep count of how many times I've reached the 'free cake' on my cake frequency card. I've never had a problem until this location. Every single time I buy a cake from here, when I get home I find that it's freezer burned! What I mean by that is, do you know how when something, such as ice cream, melts a bit, usually because you left the freezer open or its been in your freezer for years? And then it develops ice all throughout every possible bite of ice cream. It then no longer has that creamy, dairy, ice cream taste and texture. It then becomes like a crunchy snow cone with cream in it. It's terrible. I don't know what the issue is. If it's their freezer, or if they let the cakes melt before freezing them? But I've had this happen to me, only at this location, but more than once!! And it's infuriating because this is also the most expensive location I've ever been to. I've never been to any other dairy Queen where the cakes costed as much. Most places are about $28 for a 10 inch cake - thia one is $35 or $36....so o pay more, for cake that I have to throw away.... And I throw away the entire thing. To make matters worse, I told the teenage girl at the counter my issue, and she just looked at me blankly like "well, what do you want me to do about it?", so when it happened again, I didn't even bother telling them as I know they act like you're lying or something? When I'm sure they have heard this before. Also, they close at 10, I believe the closing time was 9:00 or 9:30 in non-summer hours, but regardless, I have arrived there twice about 15 minutes before closing time and they told me they were closed already. I have worked in customer service for years - I worked in the mall doing beauty services where we closed at 9pm. Customers would come in at 8:55 for a service and guess what? We would take them! Because good customer service is taking customers right up until the advertised closing time. It's terrible for employees to just leave when they feel like it. If you're really craving Dairy Queen, be advised that at this location, it's in you and your wallets best interest to avoid purchasing a cake that you'll just have to throw away as soon as...
Read moreI live about thirty minutes away, this is the closest Dairy Queen. Due to that, I called ahead and asked if they had any pre-made NUT-FREE cakes, or if I had to special order a nut free one. I was told on the phone yes we have premade nut free. Great.
I drove there, mentioned I was the one who called about the nut free cakes and asked which fridge had them. She didn’t point me to the nut free ones, however, she pointed out the ones that DO have nuts. I picked out a cake and because my boyfriend has an EpiPen for this, I asked may you please check that this cake I picked out is nut free? (skor. To my understanding skor chocolate was milk chocolate, toffee, and caramel). The girl looked at the cake label and said YES. This cake is nut free. I purchased it and went home.
After putting candles in it (this is important) I went to my boyfriend with it , and right away he said that cake isn’t safe for him. It has almonds. I brought the cake back with one of his three EpiPens to try to stress the severity of telling me it was nut free when it wasn’t. She did not seem to understand even what an EpiPen is. Instead of saying to customers “yes” it’s safer to say “I’m not sure”. On my way out with a swapped cake for a Oreo one which my boyfriend mentioned was safe for him from DQ, the girl actually asked me to put the cake I brought back, BACK into the sales fridge! I said, you are the same lady who sold me this cake yesterday. It’s been in my house over 24 hours and has candle holes in it- you CANNOT resell this cake. That’s disturbing that she was going to put it back in the sales fridge!
Luckily this cake was for a 33 year old man, who knew to ask what kind it was before eating- and I did not feed it to a child who wouldn’t have. You can KILL people. Please, educate your employees on the severity of allergens if you are working in an industry that...
Read moreThe worst Dairy Queen I’ve ever been to, it was exteremly messy, dirty, it had a terrible smell like the grease trap has not been changed, garbages were over flowing, floors needed to be sweeped, tables were dirty and needed to be wiped, when I asked if they could sanitize a table for me the girl gave attitude and told me napkins was over at the condiment station, and then instantly turned to talk with the other coworker in another language, looking back and staring. , had to go the washroom and putsoap and water on a napkin, There was also no condiments, and when asked for some ketchup and salt and pepper and told the girl that stuff was empty, the girl at the counter said nothing but pointed to the condiment station, again and turned around. I repeated “can you get someone to restock the stuff out here please?” she just walked away without giving me the condiments I asked for, or getting someone to check the lobby. , after we finished our food I Went up to get a cake like I planned for my moms birthday and asked for “ happy birthday mummy” for writing & a bit of extra icing to add a little colour at the top, the same girl at the counter argued with me and said they don’t do writing that “what’s in the freezer is how you get the cake” I’ve worked at a Dairy Queen before, but Ive also always come to get cakes from dq. So I do know they are supposed to ask IF I want writing. Not say that what’s in the freezer is what I get, and argue with me for asking for three...
