I'll start with the good. The decore is nice, and the barista was somewhat friendly. We had an apple pie that was tasty.
On the down side, there was only one person running the shop, and she had to spend a lot of her time in the back. I got the feeling she was too busy for customers, and there were not many customers.
We got two small bags of cookies, (5 peanutbutter cookies and 5 shortbread cookies) I had a spinach and feta croissant and a hot latte, and my wife had a butter croissant and an iced latte, and we shared the apple pie. For this we paid $48, w lmhich I thought was a bit steep.
Our coffees were decent, except the server forgot to make my wife's cold, and had to remake it.
She offered to heat my spinach and feta croissant, but served the butter croissant and the apple pie stone cold, which then we asked to have heated. When served our food, nothing was hot... There were a few warm-ish spots, that's it..
The croissant were hard, crunchy, and dence. They had no buttery flavour to them what so ever... Basically a bun in the shape of a croissant. The spinach and feta was basically all spinach, and kinda bitter.. still cold in the center... I mean refrigerator cold.
The pie ranged from refrigerator cold to room temperature, except the crust, which was slightly warmer than ambient.
The peanutbutter cookies were bland and I could bearly taste the peanutbutter. A peanutbutter cookie should be salty-sweet and peanutbuttery, these were neither... They were even the wrong colour... Too light.... They were ok as some other cookie, I guess, but peanutbutter cookies are my favorite cookie, so I was disappointed, especially as I was looking to the cookies to be a redeeming element after the poor quality, way...
Read moreI recently returned to Gibsons for a visit after over one handful of years, and could not resist a tour de café as apparently that is what I would do in Gibsons. A small place, there are usually tables occupied but somehow one also usually available - which promotes a cozy atmosphere within what I might refer to as an aesthetically compelling environment. From time to time, there is even a to go line up, which always moves along with smiles. The fellow behind the counter recognized me after all those years and enquired as to what I was up to (so rare a pleasant social experience for many years). I could not order anything but what I once did; an Americano. It was produced of quality efficiently and expertly, so much so, that when I sat down and took a sip, I slipped into the most incredibly satisfying solitary cafe experience, the same one that then was retrieved from my memory of MORE in that moment while of the past. The top of the list anywhere. Another table was chatting with the proprietor behind the register and espresso machine, and More's pleasant community was once again also experienced.... Later that day, I stopped by a local competitor - a different vibe, and sat briefly outside. A woman at the patio table next to me was emphatically announcing the quality of the baking at MORE. That evening, I told my mother I had been at MORE that day. "Their double baked croissants are incredible!" "Yeah," I recalled to myself, "if you can work off the calories." Simply that unique and equisite a confection. They are both correct. Next time I will remember to have a croissant with the transcendental ...
Read moreOur Airbnb host in Gibsons recommended this café, and it quickly became a favourite during our trip. We first stopped in before heading to Egmont for a kayak tour and enjoyed it so much that we came back again before catching the ferry. Both times, the food and coffee were excellent, and the service from the owner and staff was warm, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it an easy place to linger — whether you’re working on something, meeting friends, or simply soaking up the vibe (we even ran into someone sketching during our visit, which added to the creative feel). The location is also convenient for drivers, cyclists, and backpackers as a perfect stop before continuing on to their next adventure, including the ferry to Powell River....
