We were staying in the area for a little retreat to a small town and decided to have dinner here. Most resturants close early and I really didn't want to have dinner at 5:00pm. So, we decided to arrive at Chuchk's roadhouse at around 9:15pm. The resturant closes late - I believe closer to midnight so it would be a good choice. The menu online was fairly reasonable, both in price and food selection. Based on the reviews of other people; the majority of dissatisfied customers complained of time waiting to be served. We came in and weren't greeted, but it was a full house so I was forgiving and completely understood. It is not clear if you just sit down or wait to be seated. A sign advising would be great becuase I just stood there for a while. I guess I am used to being seated but its okay. We ended up sitting at a table and didn't wait too long. Again based on reviews, we ordered everything at the same time - drinks, apps, and mains. Everything came in a timely order but I did notice that all other tables were waiting a while. Maybe this is the trick - know what you would like and order it all at once.
The atmosphere was good ...on par with a bar/resto. Tables where clean and well situated to watch a couple big screen tvs. The place isn't too big but there's lots of free parking around. The music wasn't too loud, you could still have a conversation.
We were going to share the salted garlic bread but it looked really buttery so I let me hubby eat them all. I had the roast beef plate ($14; comes with 4-5 slices of roast beef, mashed potatoes, 1/2 cob of bbq corn) and a spicy ceasar ($4.50) - great prices. There was a lot of gravey on the beef - next time I'll ask for it on the side. The Overall, it was good. The meat was tender and flavourful; there were many slices too. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. The corn tasted great and sweet. In the photo I had 2 cobs because hubby doesn't like corn and it came with his meal. My meal was good and I would return. So 4ššššfrom me. To earn 1 more star; just put up a sign about seating. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews; my experience was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent inside with my boyfriend on New Yearās Eve. Obviously two young gay men. We knew the night would be busy due to NYE, but we were treated extremely unfair compared to the rest of the customers. We watched our waiter ignore us, talked to other tables, checking up on them, the entire time. I had to walk (after 15 mins) to get our order taken by talking to the staff near the bar. We ordered, and received our food much later, though we understood the reasoning. By the time our food comes, we begin to eat. The fries were cold, but the chicken was delicious. By the time our waiter checked on us we were mostly finished. He asks if everything is okay and I say my fries came out cold. He talks to the cook and brings out freshly hot fries. He places it down and walks away saying nothing. Then 5 minutes later after walking past us he tells us in a rude tone āhope thatās hot enough for you.ā And walks away. By this time, I couldnt sit by and watch everyone get helped, and not make us feel like we werenāt supposed to be here. I speak to the manager and the owner comes out as I explain the issue, just wanting to let him know we felt this way. He brushes it off and says theyāre busy and begins to speak about how āI donāt get it.ā And that Iām ātrying to not solve the issue after he tried offering us a refill on our drink and to make us feel ācomfortable.ā Our food was 95% full. I repeatedly stated that I wanted to let him know the situation, and I guess refill is enough as a āIām sorry!ā I declined the drink, only wanting to let the manager / owner. Know how we felt. We didnt want anything in return to āmake things right.ā And owner refused to understand we just wanted to let them know about the situation. Which he finally acknowledge. We wait another 10-20 minutes and nothing has changed, our food is done and waiting for the waiter, nobody comes and I have to go up to a random staff to bring us our payment. The owner brings it over and I pay.we leave and made us...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the chucks cheesesteak sandwich which came with fries. The sandwich was very good but the fries were like most places these days serving so called fresh cut fries since they are too lazy to peel the potatoes. So you inevitably get a bunch of bits of potatoes that are inedible. I also had the cherry cobble for desert . I was expecting something similar to a cherrry pie but was disappointed that it was just warmed cherries with an oatmeal like topping(it did say buttery pastry in the menu but that was in no way a buttery āpastryā to me!) It tasted ok but was definitely not what I had envisioned it to be. However the two small scoops of vanilla ice cream were very good. The restaurant was not overly busy at the time I entered but the service was slow on a Tuesday approximately 1:30 pm. But I have another bone to pick with this restaurant. Their HANDICAPP door openers DID NOT WORK on either side of their heavy hard to open doors!!! I was using a Walker and was by myself and found these doors very hard to open. Even if I had not used my Walker they still were unusually heavy doors to open. I have been to 4 different restaurants in 4 differnt cities or towns where this seems to be a commonality. However the one restaurant had their hostess come and assist at a London restaurant where this occurred both as I was entering and leaving. It seems that most of these restaurant owners seem to feel that their handicapped patrons do not deserve the courtesy of functioning devices. Are they trying to discourage our rights to enjoy a few hours out at their establishments? Are we regarded as second rate citizens? I went on YouTube later that evening and found several videos on how to fix the handicapp door openers(I was actually searching to find if this seems to be a commmn problem or just that they only are there for ālooksā.) Surely this day in age handicapped people deserve more...
