I really wanted this place to be special. We're new to the area and I've heard good things.
Decided to finally try it this past Saturday evening.
It was busy and we had to wait 15 minutes. No problem.
My wife ordered the Killer Club sandwich and I ordered fish and chips. Both upgraded the fries to a poutine.
My tartar sauce was forgotten. When I received it, the taste was horrible. Clearly something squirted out of bottle from Food Basics or something similar.
The food wasn't bad... but it wasn't good either. Shoestring fries gives it a McDonald's fast food feel. The gravy wasn't anything special. Tasted like it came from a can that was warmed up.
The portions were very disappointing. I'm being honest, we left there and went to McDonald's for a burger. It's not like we eat a lot of food. Most times I can just barely finish my meal in restaurants, but we actually left here still very hungry. As you can see from my photo, the lemon wedge is bigger than the coleslaw. Two tiny pieces of fish and literally a handful of fries each (not in the picture, I had already ate them in my poutine).
The price does not reflect the portion size. It was quite expensive for what we received. Yes, I know the price of food has increased, but that's no excuse. We usually go to a place in Wingham, and for the same price, always receive a lot more food that tastes better and doesn't include shoestring fries!
Normally, we would give a restaurant a second chance, but really, the portions were so small that I feel ripped off and because of that, we definitely will not be returning.
FYI - our 16 year old son cooks at The Boot and what he cooks is much better than what we were...
Read moreSo this restaurant was recommended by the Bed and Breakfast we were staying at, so we headed down for some perch and watch the sunset. Our meal started with coffee, tea and appetizers. In my wifes coffee there is something floating, it is soggy and green. We call the waitress and explain we found somthing floating, she brings another coffee and leaves the coffee in question sitting on the table with the floating green something. Time for the meal, we ask for vinegar for our fries, the waitress walks by and tosses one vinegar packet for both of us, kind of a wierd way to deal with your customers but she was in a hurry to chat with her four friends at the next table. So we dig into our meal and the perch has a fishy taste, we know its fish but perch should not taste "fishy". I am a starving and I dont mind sushi however my wife wants what we paid for and ask for the manager, only to hear for they are taking a huge hit because of covid and refunds are not going to happen, we never asked for a refund but perhaps a substitution. She goes on to explain how they are known for there fish yada yada yada...we are buisness owners as well and have been hit by covid just as hard as everyone else, this is no excuse for poor customer service...it's too bad, they did offer free deserts just before we left but by that time the bad taste wasn't going away. My wife left eating none...
Read moreWe were looking forward to enjoying a nice breakfast at West Street Willy’s with friends from out-of-town. The menu looked great and clearly the restaurant was popular with a stream of people waiting to be seated. We were initially served coffee while we waited knowing service would be a bit slow because the restaurant was busy. Unfortunately, it took over 45 minutes for the food to arrive after being promised on four occasions it would only take a few more minutes. Finally, another staff member admitted that there was a very large take-out order ahead of us - this information would have been helpful to know far earlier so we could make the decision to eat elsewhere. Also, the information was delivered in a tone that signaled we were the ones being unreasonable. We didn’t appreciate the tone or the fact we had been misled about the delivery of our order. When our food finally arrived, it was lukewarm. It tasted ok but nothing that we would rate over and a other local restaurants. Overall impressions - the food is average and it seems the restaurant gets overwhelmed to deliver both dine-in and take-out services to its customers, missing the mark on quality service and...
