Unfortunately, our favorite Chinese place was closed when we came through Grand Forks, so we tried Gilly's. As my mom put it, it was edible but not good. Really no flavor. We had a 3 item combo and 2 item combo. There were not many options to choose from, which was a disappointment and there was maybe 2 pieces of beef in our food, they were not good at all. Very slimy and no flavor, as well as hard to chew. My favorite part was the almond chicken. However, it would not be for most people. I do like greasy and this was too greasy for me, but I still liked it. It tasted mushy and the gravy was weird with the almond chicken. It is not something I have had before on Almond chicken. But surprisingly, I did like it all. Although, I am not sure many other people would. Everything else just wasn't tasty. The chow mein was soggy with no flavor and the chicken chow mein had pieces of deli meat instead of real chicken, that was a surprise. We are very glad we got a side of sweet and sour sauce or I am not sure we would have eaten much. There aren't a lot of places to eat in Grand Forks, so we would go back if everywhere was closed again. Just wish everything was fresher and had better flavor. I also wish they still had their buffet. If they have no intentions of doing it again, they should get rid of all the buffet equipment and take off of Google that they have a buffet....it has been years. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the lights were off except for the area we were siting in. The hallway to the bathrooms and the bathrooms themselves were also dark, so we had to find the lights. The atmosphere is quite out of date. The owners were very nice and seem like wonderful people. I would love to see them tweak things a bit and make it much better. There is a lot of potential here. I hope one day they take advantage of...
Read moreBest restaurant in the whole city. Makes the most delicious food I've ever had in my life. Prices are reasonable for most items, and the smorg deal is awesome.
I've noticed many other peoples' reviews of the food, particularly those from out of town, tend to rate the food as average or bad. Which leads me to believe that perhaps it's a bit of an aquired taste. All well, I like it.
(As for the people claiming that the food was cold or even 'moldy' or whatever, I have never experienced anything like that. All the food they've ever given me was hot and fresh.)
My best advice is just to give it a try and see if...
Read moreIf I could give it no stars I would. The food and the selection is terrible. The chicken chow mien had chicken sandwich meat in it which I couldn't believe!! The "salad bar" had a bowl of lettuce and a bowl of pickles with 2 packaged dressings ( Italian and long island) . I tried to at least have one of everything at the buffet but not one thing I could honestly say I enjoyed. They said it was over 40 items and I counted 20 not including the bowl of pickles aha. Will not...
