Went to Chuck's on Woodlawn last night with a friend...we go there about once every 2 months. This time we noticed a significant change in the quality of the food and service. I ordered the buffalo chicken fingers and sweet potato fries with aioli dip. What arrived at the table were some very small, shrivelled up end pieces of chicken fingers that were mostly breading and very dried up and crusty on the ends. They did not resemble "fingers" (or chicken filet parts) in any way! I had these last time I was here and they were much larger and actually resembled a chicken finger. Immediately I asked what was being served to me and our server sent the Manager over. The Manager told me that the chicken fingers come from their supplier in a bag and sometimes there are smaller pieces and he confirmed it looked like I got mostly smaller pieces from the end of a bag. He said they would bring me more.
While waiting, my friend noted that her half rack of ribs was not hot and both of our sweet potato fries were also not hot...lukewarm at best. The aioli sauce for the fries was not what used to be served here. It was an orangey-red colored sauce that tasted funny.
Our server delivered 2 more chicken fingers to me in a small bowl (yes, only 2 more!) and they were about the same size as the others I had already received (maybe slightly bigger, but not like what I've been served on previous visits). Scrawny and misshapen! Have they changed suppliers to try to reduce their own costs while continuing to charge customers the regular price??
Our server asked if I would like a refill on my club soda, which had been empty for a while, so I said yes and he refilled it. When he brought the bill to the table, he said "I did not charge you for the club soda refill - it's on me. But don't tell my Manager". Very odd comment since refills on pop are free (and club soda isn't as costly as pop since it's just carbonated water). No offer to compensate me, even partially, for the miserable chicken fingers that were served to me. Oh...and the bathroom stalls in the women's washroom were filthy too. And then I noticed an additional 3% fee added to the bill (after I had already paid) that is called "HONEST TO GOODNESS FEE"...what is this about? The HST and tip I paid were calculated after this extra rogue 3% fee. What a rip-off! I've always enjoyed the sports-bar atmosphere and decent food and prices at Chuck's Roadhouse, but this was my last visit to Chuck's - I will not go back again (to...
ย ย ย Read moreI was very disappointed with my experience this evening.
Food: I ordered a rare steak and a lobster tail and my child ordered chicken fingers and fries, the rest of the table had no complaints. However my childs chicken fingers were over cooked, rock solid and they could not eat them. My steak undercooked, almost blue, the steak knife barely cut through it and the lobster was 1st served almost completly RAW un eatable.. i sent it back and this time the surface had cooked a bit however the shell barley changed color and when i opened up the tail, RAW again....
Service: Started out great. I was able to make a reservation on a Saturday evening for 9 people, Sat us down right away, very friendly Waiter. However this was a roller coaster, as we asked for my child's chicken fingers order to go in right away, so when they took the drink order, it took 20 mins to get our drinks and nearly 40 mins to get my child's food which as mentioned was sent back. We still had to wait for our meals after that.
The manger did try to reconcile, 1st my comping my child's meal, but when the lobster was served raw a second time, I had to request the lobster be taken off my bill and declined another one. I requested to speak to the manger at this point, who I went aside with, and spoke to privately, as my intentions were not to embarrass them.
By the end of it, the manager compensated us for my meal, My child's meal and the non-alcoholic drinks on the table. They also surprised us with a ice cream desert at the end of service. The way the front of house handled the poor food, WELL DONE. They did a good job at the recovery.
To whoever cooked my food and my sons food... you need training, we all need to put bread on the table, however severing food to that low of a quality standard is completely unacceptable and I really do hope this team learned from this.
Lastly,
Atmosphere: I've been to a bunch of thesr It's a sports bar/restaurant Franchice restaurant vibe, no disappointment there. The men's bathroom was filthy, I took my child in to the stall and it was disgusting. Along with the diaper table being out of service...
3 stars was a stretch but like I mentioned, the manger here, is what save this from being a 1...
ย ย ย Read moreIn this review , one will only find two stars, twice we have ordered at this location. The first time wasn't bad , the second time well let's just say you know when you have gotten a chicken and put it in the fridge the next day and a few days go by you decided to have left overs and you cook the chicken but wait there is an odd smell and taste, the dark meat is darker and looks a little rubbery sorry dry but wet . Like you inly cooked it partially and then froze it for another meal. Well that was my food the BBQ chicken ( leg ) made me ill as they were informed zero concernnand offered dessert. ๐คจ I have never experienced that in my life, not even the stomach flu has nothing on what I experienced last night still this morning , as for the stomach pain and swelling I have had some pretty big surgeries to know pain this was on that list. To top it off the lobster tail was tuffer than biting Pleather ; so between the one partial bite of old reheated then cooked chicken leg so microwaved then cooked . One never knows whom might come to your restaurant or order take-out. The food should always be fresh from the morning prep not last weeks and then frozen .Just think what if you had a surpise visitor of particular status and they ate what I had .. good luck to you cause my body is in pain , lost some weight though so who know ๐ basically be careful what you order and as for the those that though this was a situation only for the assistant manager , well ethically it should of been the manager but hey I'll just do what I'm best at and share my experience and see where it takes them in customer base. They wouldn't even give a gift certificate for another location for refund since I was being sick and my daughter's father had to go , forgot the card at home with already a second drive won't do a third but this will determine how sufficient I will be in informing those to stay away from the woodlawn location for...
