Swiss Chalet — Restaurant in Guelph

ZERO stars!! Ordered take out dinner for 3 ppl from this restaurant tonight and it was horribly disappointing! first of all, the containers were awful. We were eating with the boxes on our laps and the moisture and grease from the box on your lap from some of the meals was concerning. The original containers were sorely missed! Although we asked for utensils and condiments, none were included. We had to go scrouging for forks!

The Crispy Chicken Sandwich and sweet potatoe fries were absolutely pitiful!! The sandwhich itself was only a clump of crispy chicken and a drizzle of sauce. There was no pickle, no lettuce or coleslaw as advertised! The side sweet potatoe fries costing an extra $2.99, was not worth the additional charge. The volume was half of the side box, the pieces looked like small bits and they were greasy and flimsy! They looked like they were remnants of an order that had been sitting a while!

The chicken wrap and side caesar salad was not any better. Normally the wraps when in dining are a good size. This one looked like it was half the size. The Caesar salad was nothing to write abt either!

I ordered the quarter chicken dinner, white meat and a side garden salad. The BIG box housed the quarter chicken and the other side was empty other than the chalet sauce! What a waste of space! My side garden salad was honestly gross! The lettuce was browning and limp, some looking "wet or slimy". I did not feel safe to eat it and it was put in the garbage.

If it werent for the fact that we were hungry, we would have gotten back into the car and drove it back to the restaurant to request a refund!

Quite unfortunate as Swiss Chalet has been a staple in our taken out menus!

This restaurant has recently been updated, it now has a nice fancy flare to it. The restaurant was very clean on this day. We had dinner on a Tuesday - our waitress was the only one working the dining room during dinner time. She told us Tuesdays have not been popular for dining in so they cut back on staff.

As Murphy’s law would have it, this particular Tuesday was different- people kept on coming in. Our waitress was awesome!!! She was literally running between tables and the hostess station to sit new comers and to serve those waiting.

She quickly apologized to everyone letting them know she was alone right now but would be back to take their order as quickly as could. Everyone was nice to her, saying they were in no rush. That was nice to see!

The food came quickly once our order was taken. We had the Quarter Chicken dinner and the Hot Chicken Sandwich.

The gravy and the chicken in the Hot Chicken sandwich were far from hot, the sauce was barely warm. Nevertheless, it is a delicious sandwich.

We were using one of their $10 coupon we received before the holidays. Our waitress was kind enough to let us know we fell short by a few dollars in meeting the $40 minimum. We happily added a piece of pie to get over the dollar limit.

This location is near our home so we’ll definitely come back but it would be nice if management would consider bringing in extra staff when unexpected rushes happen.

We came in for Mother's Day. My mother in law loves Swiss chalet, so how can we go wrong? My wife got the half chicken and MIL got the quarter chicken dark. Both with fries. Swiss chalet fries are always amazing. The double cooked fries are amazing. Some of the best fries out there. I got the limited time roast beef dinner. The roast beef was nicely drenched in a thicker jus that tasted fantastic. The mashed potatoes, as always, were great with the extra gravy. Now the veg on the other hand, was raw. I love my mixed veg a bit on the crunchy side, but you could tell that these were thrown in the microwave for a little bit less time than optimal. I asked my server if she could get me some more, a little more cooked, and she was back momentarily with them "double cooked." They were still a bit on the undercooked side, but they weren't too bad.

What really made our meal though was the service. Thea, was amazing. She was there promptly, even though she was pretty busy. She refilled our drinks, with a sly little "Need some more iced tea?" She made a comment about my Star Wars shirt, but not in that "I'm just looking for a tip," kind of way. She was genuine and quick.
