In the bustling heart of Halifax lies a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable culinary adventure: Monasaba. Nestled discreetly within the city's vibrant dining scene, this Yemeni restaurant offers a gateway to a world of flavor, tradition, and hospitality unlike any other. My recent visit to Monasaba with my family was nothing short of a revelation, a culinary odyssey that transported us through time and space to the enchanting lands of the Middle East.

Yet, it was the tantalizing aroma that danced through the air, whispering promises of gastronomic delights to come, that truly captured our senses and heightened our anticipation.
Seated comfortably, we embarked on our culinary journey with a family platter of lamb and chicken rice, a signature dish that would soon become etched in our memories. As we eagerly awaited our meal, reminiscences of past travels to the Middle East flooded my mind, particularly a cherished visit to Egypt fifteen years ago, where I first savored the rich tapestry of flavors that define this region's cuisine.
The moment our platter arrived, adorned with generous portions of succulent lamb and tender chicken atop a bed of perfectly cooked rice, we knew we were in for a treat. Each bite was a revelation, a symphony of flavors and textures that delighted the palate and stirred the soul. The chicken, soft and juicy, melted effortlessly in our mouths, while the rice, impeccably cooked, struck the perfect balance between firmness and tenderness.
However, it was the lamb that truly stole the show. Fresh, pure, and bursting with flavor, it was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and authenticity. Each morsel was a revelation, a celebration of the culinary heritage and craftsmanship that defines Yemeni cuisine.
As we savored every last bite, our taste buds tingling with delight, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the chefs and staff at Monasaba, whose passion and dedication shine through in every dish. Gratitude for the opportunity to experience such culinary excellence right here in Halifax, a testament to the city's rich tapestry of diversity and culture.
In conclusion, my experience at Monasaba was nothing short of extraordinary. From the warm hospitality to the exquisite flavors, every aspect of our dining experience surpassed our expectations. Read morewe ordered two family platters, one with lamb and second with 3 full chickens for 9 adults and 5 children. we had left overs even after 2 days of eating it. I typically hate lamb, and no one has ever been successful in cooking it in a way that I would even taste it....at Monasaba, I had 4 large pieces of the lamb. it blew my mind how little I tasted the gamey fat. close to non existant. I found out she cooks it in a very special way and removes a lot of the fat...so if you don't like lamb but really want to give it a chance, this is the place for you! the smell of lamb typically makes me want to puke, but this was delicious!
the chicken was to die for! the rice was rich in flavour with nuts and raisins, the spicy salsa was a beautiful touch on top.
never did I think Halifax would get a restaurant with this quality. you can tell the chef has passion and a reputation to keep as a local business and this place desverse the 5 stars.
lots of other options to try there for breakfast, lunch or dinner... wish I was staying in Halifax longer to try all the other dishes. Next time I visit, I will for sure come back.
